Everyone is welcome to join us at 6:00 p.m. for dinner (buffet - $15 donation) and socializing. The meeting itself starts at 7:00 p.m. We meet the first Monday of every month.
Do you care about clean water? Want to know who will be managing 1.6 billion of our tax dollars to keep it clean? Then don't miss our December Northside DFA meeting featuring candidates for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD).
We will start the meeting with a brief presentation of what the MWRD does, then we will hear from the candidates. There are 11 Democratic candidates (12 candidates filed but one has been removed) running for three spots on the MWRD board. We will hear from them panel-style, with members able to ask questions to the whole group or to individual candidates. .
We will also be doing endorsement votes for four candidates that previously spoke to our group: Alexi Gianoulias and David Hoffman for U.S. Senate, and Ed Mullen and Ann Williams for 11th District State Rep. The goal of our NDFA endorsements is not to put together a slate of candidates but to choose a targeted group progressive candidates that our members want to volunteer for and then concentrating our efforts on helping these candidates win.
Candidates must get 75% of the vote to be endorsed or 90% to be adopted. Anyone can participate in the discussion leading up to the endorsement/adoption vote, but to be a Northside DFA voting member you must have attended three of our monthly meetings and done three volunteer activities for our endorsed or adopted candidates in the previous three months. For more details see our bylaws at www.northsidedfa.com. If you have questions about your voting status or wish to record activities email northsidedfa@gmail.com.
The mission of our group is to elect socially progressive, fiscally responsible, ethically committed candidates to all levels of government. We need your help make this happen. There are ways for everyone and anyone to help out, so come to a meeting and find out more.
"We are building a political movement, not one that wields the power of lobbyists and corporate interests, but the power of millions of people who seek change." - Gov. Howard Dean
