Tomorrow:
PULL THE PLUG ON SOUTH PHILLY CASINO!

WHAT: One-hour protest rally to show neighborhood opposition to casino at Columbus Blvd. and Reed St.

WHERE: Columbus Blvd. and Reed St. (Starts at UA Artists Riverview parking lot)--Look for parade marshalls in red T-shirts

WHO: Riverfront Communities United, a coalition of 7 neighborhood groups and one business district: Society Hill, South Street HeadHouse District, Queen Village, Pennsport, Whitman, Passyunk Square, Bella Vista, Hawthorne

WHY: Philadelphia is getting two slots parlors. One proposed site is at Reed St. and Columbus Blvd., right next to the Home Depot and Comcast station. Queen Village and surrounding communities are already swamped with traffic, gridlock and development. A casino at this site will crush us. Join us and our sister neighborhoods to demonstrate our united opposition. Let's send a powerful message to our political leaders and state Gaming Control Board--WE DON'T WANT THIS AND WE WILL FIGHT TO PROTECT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS!

Format: Residents will walk across Columbus Blvd. in groups of 10 in a loop, guided by traffic patrols and parade marshalls, then convene around a stage for a short message from Rene Goodwin, chair, Riverfront Communities United. RCU will videotape our demonstration and present it to the State Gaming Control Board. Media have been invited to cover the rally.
