book club anyone?
Linked to groups: Pioneer Valley DFA
My DFA group back in Chicago had an active book club, meeting about every 6 weeks. We read things like What's the Matter with Kansas, God's Politics, Don't Think of an Elephant, etc. Linkups helped us plan now-is-the-time actions to pursue our various election, activism, and outreach goals, but the book club gave us a focused discussion on some long-term issue that helped us consider what our goals were and what strategies would help us get there. If there are others in this group who would be interested in a reading group, I'd LOVE to hear from you. Post a response here or email me at teasel at usa.com

By Elissa Small on Aug 17, 2006 12:21 PM EDTHi Rebecca!
I'm a Pub Health (Community Health Education) grad student living in Belchertown.
I'm currently planning a tag sale to benefit Common Ground Relief in New Orleans, where I lived for 8 months. I'm also looking for some one with HBO so I can watch Spike Lee's Katrina documentary on August 29th, the 1-year anniversary.
I'm reading books on permaculture, about to do research on drum circles as a healing modality for mental health problems, and in between supporting progressive candidates.
I haven't read any George Lakoff yet, on reframing issues to shift the moral high ground away from neo conservative positions. I would love to start with one of his books. Right now I'm reading Edible Forest Gardens, an amazing permaculture text by two local authors, plus The Secret Epidemic: The Story of AIDS and Black America.
Let me know what you think!
