The RIGHT woman for the job...
I have been sitting here for the last two days thinking about the election and our candidates. And something occurred to me while I was getting my daughter ready for school and packing my bag for work... there are a lot of reasons I dont like Sarah Palin. All of the obvious reasons aside, i want to address the "republican machine" and how they accuse anyone who doesnt like Sarah as hating women.
Its not that I dont want to see a woman in the White House. In my lifetime I would love to see it and believe I will. But I would like to see the RIGHT woman in the role. I think that it takes guts, and conviction to try for the second highest office. But I think that it takes a coward to be snarky and sarcastic. I dont want this big opprotunity to make it harder for women to take office in the future.
Dont get me wrong, Strong is good, being able to tell other people your story and why you are a better choice than your opponent, great. But using sarcasm and snarky remarks doesnt make you look like you know what you are doing and it certainly doesnt make you look like a leader. And I truly believe that it makes a person look like they lack substance. (ok, no cheap shots here, it is way too easy)
I guess what really hit me, is that I dont want to talk bad about her because she is not my candidate. I want to talk about the issues and what the resolutions are. I dont want to leave an election feeling like a jr. high student fighting the mean, popular girl.
Just my thoughts tonight.

The nomination of Gov. Palin, a self-proclaimed hockey mom, has set off a firestorm of media commentary across the political spectrum and in the mom world. We want your help making sure that this commentary focuses on the issues.
The media commentary shouldn't be about Gov. Palin's children, which is essentially unchecked gender bias, it should be about the issues--and where she stands on them. After all, we've had fathers in the White House for a couple hundred of years and their parental roles have yet to be an election issue.
Last week we asked our members to sign on to a letter to Gov. Palin asking her where she stands on key issues that mothers care about and deal with each and every day--and so many of you clicked the link at the same time that our website crashed. We fixed it, and now have over 10,000 signatures. Let's double that number and get to 20,000 by next week when we'll deliver the letter to Gov. Palin's office!

So far Gov. Palin has been silent on the issues which are important to mothers. We want to hear about how she and Sen. McCain will deal with the fact that over 40 million people in our nation don't have healthcare; about how they'll address the fact that too few parents have access to affordable early learning/child care for their children. We want to know what they are going to do to make sure mothers stop getting paid less for the same work as men just because they have children.
Remind the press and pundits that we need to know where Gov. Palin, and her running mate Sen. John McCain, stand on issues which impact our families every day.
Share this email with as many friends as possible so that we can deliver a letter with a huge number of signatures. Let's underscore the real issues for both the candidates and the media. We want them to hear loud and clear that the issues are at the top of our list when we vote (And, we do vote: More than 50% of the electorate are women).

My colleagues in the American liberal press had little to fear at the start of the week. Their charismatic candidate was ahead in virtually every poll. George W Bush was so unpopular that conservatives were scrambling around for reasons not to invite the Republican President to the Republican convention. Democrats had only to maintain their composure and the White House would be theirs. During the 1997 British general election, the late Lord Jenkins said that Tony Blair was like a man walking down a shiny corridor carrying a precious vase. He was the favourite and held his fate in his hands. If he could just reach the end of the hall without a slip, a Labour victory was assured. The same could have been said of the American Democrats last week. But instead of protecting their precious advantage, they succumbed to a spasm of hatred and threw the vase, the crockery, the cutlery and the kitchen sink at an obscure politician from Alaska. ...full article

Barack Obama knows it. All last week, he was warning American liberals to stay away from the Palin family. He understands better than his supporters that it is not a politician's enemies who lose elections, but his friends.

Ahem, in Providence, RI, during the primaries, Hillary attacked Obama's supporters. In the end, that backfired on Hillary.
Funny that -- if you can't attack an opponent, you go after their supporters.

Women voters have a chance to make the crucial difference in this year's election. On issue after issue, the choice is clear.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden have fought for Equal Pay for Equal Work, comprehensive health care, expansion of child care and family leave, and a woman's right to choose.
John McCain and Sarah Palin have actively worked and voted against these important issues. This year's Republican platform is so extreme it proposes a constitutional amendment banning abortion -- regardless of rape, incest, or the mother's health.
