There seems to be an apathy in some of the more Red areas of this country that Democrats--myself included are susecptible to.

I've come up with the idea of a "Red County Challenge"  to try to inspire Democrats throughout the country to not give up.

"Red State Challenge"

I hope every "Red State" will do what we will be doing here in GA.

I say we... but I just came up with the idea today at our election year kickoff here in Henry County GA. My idea is the "Red county Challenge"

The goal is for every "Red county" to compete with each other to have the largest turnout for Obama in November. If you went for Bush in 04 you are a "Red county" for definitional purposes.

Even bigger each of the "Red States" can join together to recruit all of their "red counties" and unite to try to win the "Red State Challenge" Where all the Red States compete to have the largest overall turnout. I guess some math person can explain how we can weight this so small and large states can compete on equitable ground for this game. But I came up with the challenge others can figure the rules out as we spread the word.

The goal is to get every single "red" county in this nation to be knocking on doors, holding house parties, and registering new voters. So that we can Get out the Vote this november and make history!

Please consider a vote for me to gain a scholarship to the Net Roots Nation event coming up this July. Economist Paul Krugman and other bloggers will be speaking.  Consider it a 28th birthday present (July 13th baby!)

You are a political expert...

A flier I'm printing up for our County Party Picnic.  Please comment if I should change something.. Also help spread the message that voters are the Political experts.

You are a Political Expert!

Don't let the talking heads on tv and politicians promoting apathy and divisiveness win. You are needed in the political process. You are the political expert. Take a moment to write a list of things you see in your community that need to be fixed, addressed, or improved. Look around and pay attention to those around you who are struggling to play by the rules and stay above water. The Republican "every man for themself" mentality, their "government can't address the problem" policies, are meant to keep people apathetic, disengaged, and fighting amongst each other for the scraps left over. In a Democracy WE are the government and we should NEVER vote for someone who says WEcan't find ways to address problems in our country!! Our political culture tells us when we see a man beaten by the side of the road that you pass on the other side and don't look back. Its up to us to be leaders in the community who say in one united voice: "That's not our style. Those aren't our values. America can be better than that. That's why we are Democrats!"

Send Elliot Anderson to Netroots Nation!

Our own DFA member and hard-working veteran's activist, Elliot Anderson, applied for a  DFA scholarship to Netroots Nation. The third annual convention for the vibrant Daily Kos community takes place late July in Austin. I voted for Elliot because I know he will derive maximum benefit from the networking and exchange of ideas that happens when progressive thinkers and writers from around the nation gather.

Please log on and vote for Elliot, too. It takes a quick minute. I could tell you all he's done in the two years I've known him, but check out his resume for yourself. Here's a link to his application page:

And here is his Daily Kos diary on his bid for the scholarship.

If you are a DFA-Link member (and why wouldn't you be), we need your help.  There are several Floridians signed up in the competition for Netroots Nation scholarships.  This is the national Netroots Conference that used to be Called Yearly Kos.  It's in Austin and getting there won't be cheap.  DFA is offering at least 20 scholarships to help people attend.  One of the key factors in the scholarships is grassroots support from DFA members.  You can help one or more of us win those scholarships simply by going to our pages, logging in, and click on the link on the right-hand side under our pictures "Add Your Support."  That's all you have to do.  Two familiar names are on the list:

Help St. Joseph County Indiana Democrats With Act Blue

Written by: Dustin Blythe on May 21, 2008 8:52 PM

We recently had quite a bit of presidential activity here with both the Clinton and Obama campaigns in town for about six weeks.  Each group had occasion to use our county headquarters and each commented on how lucky we are to have a permanent headquarters located in the heart of downtown South Bend.  I realize how fortunate we are.  Just here in Indiana I know of many communities that do not have the funds to have a permanent headquarters.  When election time runs around the Democratic Party rents space on a short term basis then has to turn around and move out after election day.

However, keeping a headquarters up and running is not easy.  It takes time, dedication and money.  The first two we have plenty of; we need help with the third.  That is why I have set up an Act Blue page for donations to the St. Joseph County Democratic Party:

DFA Academy Grads Elected Delegate

Three DFA Academy Graduates Elected as National Delegates
Submitted by Kate Donaghue

In January 2007, as we were regrouping from the successes of the 2006 midterms, DFA scheduled their first class in Manchester, New Hampshire.

A little more than a year later, three of the Massachusetts activists who attended the class were elected delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

Oscar Arce, from Greenfield in Western Mass, was elected as a pledged delegate for Hillary Clinton.  Oscar and I had been in touch occasionally by e-mail.  He was elected as an at-large member of our Democratic State Committee earlier this spring.  He was also elected as a delegate from his Congressional District.

Hannah Banks is a Boston based activist.  She had traveled to many states in support of Barak Obama's campaign.  She was unsuccessful in her race at the District level, but on Saturday she was elected as an At-Large delegate.  Hannah and I had not been in touch, but I talked with her a few times as she campaigned for delegate.  She told me that previously she had not been active in primaries and that she had very much enjoyed her work across the country.

Help our neighbors in the Maryland 4th Congressional

With the endorsement of Democracy for America, community activist Donna Edwards is taking on incumbent Al Wynn in the Maryland's Democratic Primary this February 12th.

This is a nationally significant test of whether grassroots power can take on a pro-war, weak-on-the environment, corporate Democrat. The district is overwhelmingly democratic and needs a real democrat to stand up for the citizens. And Donna came very close to beating Wynn in 2006.

I'm a DFA member who attended the DFA Training this past summer in Fairfax. And I am volunteering with the Donna Edwards campaign. The campaign could use some of the volunteer talent that helped turn the VA Governor's Mansion and statehouse blue.

Until the Feb 12th primary, the campaign needs some individuals who have experience with phone banks to help with their phone program, who wouldn't be afraid to drive 15 minutes to help elect a true progressive to Congress. Help is needed as soon as possible. Please call Mike Hamby @573-529-1054 or email him at mike@donnaedwardsforcongress.com.

You can also speak with Gina at the Montgomery County office at 301-871-5302

Thanks,
