And, oh, well, what is new?
I get that only once in a while, dang frustrating. It usually works later. I think Rich was sending some code to HQ cuz they couldn't replicate the problem to know what to fix.
I think that the toolbar thing must be on a case by case basis cuz I got one now and I"m not tagging on to anyone. Bizarro
I tell you I can't watch the "new" Caisno Royale too many times. The new James Bond is so delicous. This has to be the fifth time I've seen it.
ooh, kid3 and I have a date to see a movie when I get back to Chitown - now I know what it'll be.
- It's on DVD - came out last year.
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 8:42 PM EDTIf you want to go to the movies, see Dark Knight. I plan to this week.
Hey, are gas prices dropping elsewhere? In the last 10-12 days it's gone from $4.19 to $3.99 here.
- I saw $4.21 in mom's neighborhood this morning
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 8:53 PM EDTDidn't check here on the way home from the airport but I think it's hovering between $4.40 & $5.00 depending on the location. $3.99 in the northern burbs is a bargain - they need those prices in leff affluent areas.
I have to say that my impression of Southwest Airlines has improved. Their new boarding system is better than their A, B & C only. The new system pairs and number to be followed in chronological order when boarding the plane. Business partner (nominal fee for priority boarding) goes on after the disabled or families but you have to pre-register first. Then comes the A team, lined up in number order. Families who did not pre-register board right after A, then comes B. I was a B5 and still got an aisle seat in row 7. No hassles, nice and orderly.
Midway Airport has really come a long way - for its size I think it's the best in the nation.
Agreed, although not all of Lake Cty. is affluent. Think alot of the difference is the Cook taxes -
- Yeah wonder what they're charging in Wonder Lake
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 9:07 PM EDT$4.21 all over in Cook that I saw. Might have seen $4.19 last night in Orland Park.
Supply and demand - higher downtown, less gas stations.
Some lovely homes going up around 135th and Will-Cook road. I had some fun driving around there on the way to the party. Burr Ridge, too.
ah, the $3.99 is here in MA. around $4.21 in the north 'burbs.
- Oh you're back in MA, my mistake.
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 9:01 PM EDTBut gas is always higher in the urban poor areas. Now that is something I'd like to see Fr. Pfleger tackle next. He did a great thing getting the Kool billboards off of the corners on the south and west sides.
Cubs finally won today, but so did St. Louis and Milwaukee. Exciting and nail biting - perfect baseball
Yeah, those Cook taxes are only part of it. Although, gotta say, prices are usually a few cents less up around Zion, Gurnee, N. Chicago... not sure about much in the west part of the county
Go Cubs! they needed it. Sox got creamed last night, don't know if they played today
Teams always play on Sundays -- one of their best attendance days.
I'm watching Bay Area Backroads, a nice program that is on each week to show the locals some of the great unknown treks and trips they might be missing. This week they are showing somewhere where you drive cars into a lake. The Arcane Auto Society - meets regularly and they go on road trips. Specially made cars. They drive them in the reservoirs LMAO
- 1964 Amphicar, half car, half boat
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 9:16 PM EDT5800 made, about 1000 in existence, half of which float.
Other cars are cute oldies but goodies. I love old cars.
cool that it's old cars, I love 'em too. The guy that owns one of the pizza places near Gary has an antique auto show every summer, this year he had about 100 cars come over a weekend. He blocks off part of his parking lot and some spaces on the street - fun to see. Lake Forest does a show too but I haven't gone for ages.
good local programming. So often we travel afar to 'do things' and have no idea what's in our own backyards. Not sure I'd go for driving into the reservoir, but hey. lol, I was gonna say whatever floats one's boat -
- SF had its AIDS walk today but I don't see a write up yet
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 9:24 PM EDTI walked it the first six years I lived here - my knee can't handle it anymore though
hear ya. I'm wondering if my toes and knees can handle another parade. The extra time of standing while they took care of the guy that broke his leg falling off a float was brutal and is making me have second thoughts about doing it again in the stilettos.
- Do you use lambs wool? Can't do much for the knees though
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 9:32 PM EDTI remember those hikes for hunger we used to do when we were in high school. 30 miles! I have no idea how i did it. And the March of Dimes - 23 miles up and down the lakefront. I really miss those walks. I have a Pys Therapy appt for my knee. Doc says that if I strenghten my knee muscles the arthritis and bone will feel much better. I'm also getting a new office chair and having the office ergonomically reviewed.
all good things. Check into footrests - great for the back and knees.

moleskin. two layers of socks would go a longer way, but hard to do w/ nylons and heels ;-)
- Boss just gave me her footrest just have to be there to use it.
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 20, 2008 9:45 PM EDTI'm working all next week, next trip is Aug. 3. Vegas buddy coming in for the weekend.
Gonna scrounge some dinner and unpack - will check back later :)
lol, yep, footrests only good when you're at the desk. Dinner sounds good...
only 4 weeks to DFest!
tickets still at the discount price
ROFL - ok, pantyhose, guess my age is showing. Not sure it's possible to find actual stockings these days.
No - it wasn't your terminology Thankful, it was the actual wearing of the things -- in Florida it would be torture to put on pantyhose, although I confess I know those who do. I'm still going with barelegs and painted toes altho I usually get stuck in the last fashion cycle -- the 'grunge look' worked well for me long past its prime :~)
about 1989. . . .
Denise: emu oil is great for crummy knees. . . .
even wore the suckers to work. But China, and sneaks ruined it for me -- I learned of *comfort*. . . . .
ah yes, back in the day. had the greatest in HS - we moved after my soph. year so I finished at an all girl Catholic HS in Chicago - with the uniforms and all, shoes were our only form of self expression. Oh, how we expressed :-)
Last thread I asked about... groups such CP and ActUp - is this really effective change management? The only value I see is that they raise awareness, but it's in such an offensive way that any message is lost. Any target audience dismisses them as ranting and raving fringe, and issue colleagues dismiss them as rude interruptions.
What's your take?
Since it's mostly ladies here - if you haven't gone yet - please go see Mamma Mia. It's hilarious. Ridiculous plot - so no it won't win an Oscar - but it's so much damned fun. Now I just can't get all those Abba tunes out of my head. My daughter and I were down in Seattle today and she commented that she keeps humming *Dancing Queen* - for me I'm singing *Waterloo*.
Nite all! ;-)
howdy mary :-) way nicer to have a thread posting on doesn't take herculean effort. think it may be a nice evening ritual...
yikes, got sidtracked entering data in the new family tree software...
Howdy Lenny! Thanks!
Susan, yep, although I see there's a new front page - great diary by Monica
Having lots of trouble posting - keep getting 'we're having a problem'.
Time to see what the pillows have to say...
Nite & ♥'s to all
Kindness is free!
- Just woke up from a nap to say good night!
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 21, 2008 2:09 AM EDTJust had to stop by this thread since it seemed more like the "old" BFA. Is it just my impression or were some whole threads from Saturday "disappeared?"
It is getting much too difficult to follow things around here. Why is it that what WAS working on this blog ... the free-flow exchanges that made us all feel part of a movement ... is the thing that "needs" to be "fixed" ... a Rovian subtext to be sure, IMO.

In any event, here's a wonderful Top Ten from DU. The #10 spot is especially a good one, so be sure to read all the way through.

McPain Edition
John McCain (1,2,3,4,5) is really firing on all cylinders as we come down the back straight of the presidential race. Elsewhere, George W. Bush (8) is in the pits, and Mike Meehan (10) has crashed up a tree. As usual, don't forget the key![...]
