CHALLENGE: ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT to raise $380! Help the only Democratic County Commissioner in Missaukee County (Michigan).
On Tuesday, November 4th, history was made in Missaukee County. I was fortunate enough to defeat a Republican incumbent for County Commissioner in the second most Republican county in the state of Michigan. However, as with many campaigns, I have debt to pay off, and several final expenses to pay. I need to raise $380 in 3 days. Can I count on you? Making a contribution is easier than ever. Just click on the link below, and make a secure, online contribution using PayPal...
OFFICIALLY ENDORSED BY MID-MICHIGAN DEMOCRACY FOR AMERICA (MMDfA)!“Richard REALLY knows his stuff and has specific plans for improving his county.”
As I was quoted in our local daily, the Cadillac News, following my victory...
"The voters...have made a determination that the status quo is no longer acceptable, that we expect more accountability, greater openness, and transparency in county government."
Please, help me pay off my debt by raising $380 in 3 days. Just click on the link below, and make a secure, online contribution using PayPal...
Victory '10,
Richard Renner
Missaukee County Commissioner-elect

Regarding opening environmentally protected areas for mining and pumping oil:
There is over 200 years of oil in the 48 contiguous States that are capped up by oil companies to monopolize world energy. There is no need to violate our environmentally protected areas, just to allow oil companies to further monopolize their strangle hold over our lives.
They are creating a media frenzy just to increase the price of oil; very successfully I might add. However, there is no immediate threat for an oil shortage !!! The oil companies have ONLY created the perception that there is a shortage !!!!
I personally believe that ALL mineral rights belong to the American People, NOT souless corporations!!!
I applaud Venezuela for nationalizing the oil assets in their country!!!!
We should be doing the same thing here in the United States !!!!

Invitation To Attend Robert Greenwald's Iraq for Sale Screening on October 28!
Linked to groups: DFA-Denver
Dear Member,There was a slight scheduling change made to the "Iraq For Sale" screening. It is being shown on the Saturday 28th and not Friday 27th. All of the other info - including Herb Rubinstein's participation remains the same.

Denver CO 80202
Do To the success of the recent Screening of Robert Greenwald's "Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers. We are scheduling another one. So if you missed it - or would like to see it again - you are in luck.
Herb Rubenstein will moderate will the discussion after the showing. Herb was a candidate for in the recent CD 7 Democratic primary. Herb distinguished himself from Peggy and Ed by advancing a very clear plan about how to proceed in Iraq. His ideas are similar to Rep. John Murtha's. Herb's insights should be very thought provoking.
Pat Waak - Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party - moderated the discussion at our last screening on 10/13.

Share your Volunteer stories / Volunteer Opportunity

Two things - everyone.I want to share this e-mail from the DFA National Office. It is about telling your volunteer stories.
But first, I was wondering if anyone can help me do some fliering around Capital Hill? I'm doing advertising for the Forum on 8/26. If you can help, shoot me an e-mail! Thanks a million. I hope to do drop off leaflets around Capital Hill (Coffee Shops) this week.
Thanks,
John
As Promised, here is the e-mail from DFA:
Hi John,
First of alI I just want to thank you for our conversation earlier about DFA. To follow up with you about the Stories intiative, the link to share a story on DFAlink is simple: www.dfalink.com/volunteerstories
Below are two great examples of stories. They can be in depth or they can be short and sweet. Please pass the volunteer stories link on to your group.
Thanks very much,
Ari
Example one:
The Canvass that Almost Wasn't
Last weekend I went canvassing for John Pavich, who is running for Congress against Republican incumbent Jerry Weller. I had seen the notice about the canvassing date several times, but the location was pretty far away from me, so I wasn't planning on going. But since my DFA group had just adopted John's campaign I decided I better email the notice to our group members. While I was doing that I noticed that there was a person you could call if you wanted a ride. Well, a ride made all the difference! Having a ride helped me recruit a friend to go as well, and we ended up having a carfull going down for the canvassing. As we chatted in the car, it turned out that the person giving the ride had been volunteering with the campaign for over a year, and was able to answer many questions that we, as new comers, had about the campaign. At the end of our successful day of canvassing, topped off by Oreo cookies and sodas at the campaign office, we all exchanged emails and promised to keep in touch about carpooling for future Pavich events.
Because of that one little thing -- an email that turned into a ride that turned into our own "inside track" on the campaign -- we were able to be the "boots on the ground" for the campaign and to lay the groundwork for future volunteer efforts. This is what grassroots is about -- people helping people to reach out to their neighbors, one door, one vote, one ride at a time.

Example two:
Volunteer experience with Dave Patlak for US Representative 18th Congressional District of Florida
We went canvassing, tons of fun, very friendly people, and the Dems we visited were pumped for the election. Unfortunately I had to run for my life from a dog I didn't see!

GOP CONGRESSMAN SEES THE LIGHT!!!
Linked to groups: DFA-Denver
A Republican congressman watches an anti-Bush video and as a result suspects that the Bush administration deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, and that explosives were the main factor in bringing down three of the World Trade Center buildings. Unbelievable? Here's a transcript of a Town Hall Meeting from April 2006 held with Representative Curt Weldon (R-PA):Dave Slesinger: First, I want to praise you for your Able Danger efforts. Since you are the Congressman most sympathetic to firefighters, have you looked at the quotes from NYC firefighters at the World Trade Center on 9/11 about explosives? If you have, will you accept information on [this] for later comment?
Rep. Weldon: I will absolutely accept information, and I'm very close to the NYC firefighters because one of my best friends was killed there...
I talk to the fire department on a regular basis. When the Republican convention was held in New York in 2004, I went up a day early, I went down to the fire department headquarters. I spent the day with them. And when I finished the briefings, and getting their input, as to what happened on 9/11, which I had ongoing, I went up and spent two hours running with Engine 54 (inaudible) in midtown Manhattan. And I wanted to do that because on 9/11 all 15 firefighters on duty from that station were killed. And I wanted the firefighters to give me their views without going through any chiefs or other officers about what happened.
Now, there's a lot of theories out there about what occurred. And uh, I haven't gone into the structural elements of the building. The fact that there are reports on multiple explosions on other floors... I am open to that information. I'm willing to challenge the system. And uh, and don't automatically discount anything that's told to me because I've seen, I've seen too much. I mean, ya know, I hate to say that sometimes I don't trust my Government, but sometimes, I don't trust the Government. The bureaucracy. Ya know the best evidence of that is we had the, uh, Tillman, the football player. Joined the army, he was killed. We now find out that the army burned his clothing. So the family never got to get the real story about how Pat Tillman died. Now if it was an accident, so be it. You don't hide that information because somebody is going to be embarrassed.
That's the whole story with Tony Shaffer. It's the bureaucrats trying to hide information and facts, so they're not embarrassed. So, do I automatically accept what the Government tells me? No. And that's why I get myself in trouble. I challenge the CIA, I challenge the DIA. I'll challenge our Defense Department. That's why you send me there. If you want somebody to go there, and just go along, you would send a robot. That would vote the way the party wanted, and would go along with the current President. I won't do that. So I'm absolutely open to any information anyone has that challenges anything about the 9/11 Commission or the work there.
Dave Slesinger speaks up: Congressman, that was my question, I, wanna give out, anybody who wants this, this is a speech by a physics professor at BYU, Steven Jones.
Rep. Weldon: Yeah.
Dave Slesinger: It's the hottest thing happening on the 9/11 issue. In his speech, he praises Congressman Weldon, he's a conservative Republican [or was], he praises Reagan, he quotes St. Paul. I think I have [DVD copies] enough for everybody. Just ask me.
Rep. Weldon: It'll open your eyes, because his allegations are pretty strong.

Let raise the minimum wage!!!
Linked to groups: DFA-Denver
Hi, My name is Lavinia. I work with Colorado Progressive Coalition. We are a non-partisan organization that works on issues of economic, social, and racial justice in Colorado.Currently, Colorado Progressive Coalition is playing a key role in the ballot initiative campaign to raise Colorado's minimum wage. We have begun a 100,000 signature petition drive to place the minimum wage increase on Colorado's November ballot. We only have until early August - about five more weeks - to collect all signatures and CPC has committed the largest number of signatures of any group to make this happen.
If successful, this November, the initiative will propose the raising of Colorado's minimum wage to $6.85 per hour. The extra $1.70 per hour over the current minimum wage will help Colorado's lowest wage workers earn up to an additional $3,500 per year to pay the bills, support local businesses, and improve the quality of life for themselves and their families. A thorough polling of voters across gender, ethnic and economic lines has shown that if we are successful with placing this initiative on the ballot, voters will support it!
We need you to join us in this important effort. Help us raise wages for Colorado's lowest paid workers.... Help us inspire more people to vote this November.... Help us collect signatures in your community to allow Colorado voters to raise the minimum wage!
Sincerely,
Lavinia Frank

Let's Re-open old Bush wounds in Denver
Linked to groups: DFA-Denver
Hi All,On the Tuesday the 29th of November, GW is trying to sneak into Denver, unnoticed, to obtain funds from wealthy donors for Rep. Marilyn Musgrave. ProgressNowAction.org is funding a mobile billboard to follow the Bush folks around. There is a contest to come up with a picture and caption for this billboard.
Denver is the town in which “the Denver Three garnered a lot of media attention when they were unceremoniously thrown out of a taxpayer-financed Bush Social Security event by a man impersonating a secret service agent. With the help of the secret service themselves, the Bush administration was able to sweep the incident under the carpet. In a New York Times article dated 06/27/05, the same Marilyn Musgrave the “reliable Bush ally that GW is now supporting, was quoted as saying, "… they just want to get to the bottom of this, and I think that's fair."
The billboard I've done reads as follows:
"They just want to get to the bottom of this, and I think that's fair." - Representative Marilyn Musgrave on Stonewalling the Denver Three…Like an Elephant, Colorado Never Forgets.
I am asking you to vote for this billboard. The billboard with the most votes wins. There is no prize for this contest and I'm asking you to vote for the message, not the messenger. This is meant to get publicity. The winning message should be pertinent. The caption on this billboard:
1) Pits Musgrave's words against Bush's policies
2) Is relevant to the voters in Colorado
3) Reinforces how easily things get covered up when we're not vigilant
4) Is topical as the Dems/Progressive/Liberals are now pressing Bush for answers
5) Renews another agitating issue for this trainwreck of an administration to deal with
The URL to see all the billboards is
Link
The URL to vote for the Musgrave & Denver Three VS George Bush is
Link
The contest ends today, Wednesday, Nov 23 at noon. Sorry for the short notice. I just found out about this now. If you agree with the message tell your friends.
Thanks for your consideration
M. Buchner
