CT Passes Same-Sex Marriage
I know people have been upset at California's Prop 8 decision, plus the decision in Florida. But there is a little bit of light in this latest civil rights debate. Our nation's oldest paper, The Hartford Courant reported this today:
NEW HAVEN - A 4-year legal battle for same-sex marriage came to an end this morning in a New Haven courtroom when Superior Court Judge Jonathan E. Silbert signed an order paving the way to couples to get their licenses.
The state Supreme Court last month, in a 4-3 decision, ruled that preventing gay and lesbian couples from marrying violates the state constitution. Today's brief hearing was a formality that was needed before gay couples could start receiving marriage licenses.
Immediately after the court proceeding, one of the plaintiff couples, Barbara and Robin Levine-Ritterman, walked to New Haven city hall to obtain their marriage license - perhaps the first couple in the state to do so. They came out of city hall and were greeted by a small crowd that applauded. They are planning their wedding for May.
It is upsetting that California and Florida, plus the other myriad of states who have denied people of marriage, are taking steps back. But luckily states like Connecticut and Massachussetts are taking the correct steps forward.

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have said they do not object to rights for same-sex couples, as long as those rights do not infringe on the integrity of the traditional family.
Now, gay-rights activists and at least five Utah legislators are asking the Church to demonstrate its conviction.
The group Equality Utah says the Church made the invitation, and they're accepting it.
"The LDS Church says it does not oppose same-sex couples receiving such rights as hospitalization and medical care, fair housing rights or probate rights," said Mike Thompson, executive director of Equality Utah. [...]

The Christian Bible is not the same as the U.S. Constitution, scientific theories or other religions! The Christian Bible does not single out gays since it states in part that drunks and fornicators do not go to Heaven!! There are few that take the position that those other than men and women couples should be the parents of children (although Hitler tried the alternative of S.S. stud farms to produce their concept of master race children)!!! Trying a different definition of terms other than God's in the Christian Bible means that it is just a matter of time until you see what a monster you have become and have made of others!!!! As a Christian myself; I don't want my views treated as less worthy than a gays on this DFA web site and as a result finding them censored while the atheist-humanist views remain on! If gay rights activists want any rights in the Democratic Party's agenda; they should demonstrate the abiltity to debate "toe to toe" with those of us that do not share their views!! Cheating to make less worthy views prevail will just simply fail as intellectuals smell the stink!!!
