Take Back the Media by CREATING IT! Workshop this Saturday!
Linked to groups: Democracy For Tri-Cities
Do you think that Fox News is really being "fair and balanced" in its reporting? What about talk radio or your local newspaper? Are your views being represented? And if not, what can you do about it?
This Saturday, February 17, Democracy for Tri-Cities is hosting a workshop, CITIZEN JOURNALISM 101, that will help you present issues and discussion from a progressive viewpoint and in a way that honors the finest traditions of American free speech and civic responsibility.
But we're not just going to talk about the problems with our Corporate Media. Citizen Journalism 101 is going to give you the training and tools you need to get the progressive message out to the public and to help you build a "guerilla media movement" in northeast Tennessee. You’ll learn how to:
- Frame your arguments better through exercises designed by linguist George Lakoff
- Understand how news organizations work and what their limitations are
- Write a better letter to the editor, op-ed, and press release
- Use low-budget video production - like CATV, desktop editing, and YouTube – to shape the debate
- Blog! We will set up blog accounts for all attendees, so if you have a laptop computer, please bring it
Citizen Journalism 101 will be led by Jim Grinstead, a veteran journalist and former newspaper publisher, and Mark Naccarato, Nashville filmmaker and video producer. The workshop will be held at the Democratic Resource Center in Johnson City from 9:30 AM until noon. We'll have coffee and donuts, too!
PLEASE RSVP ONLINE or call Jeff at 423-367-2467 for more details.
Add your voice to the debate and be part of bringing America back to the people... be a CITIZEN JOURNALIST!
