CHALLENGE: ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT to raise $380! Help the only Democratic County Commissioner in Missaukee County (Michigan).

On Tuesday, November 4th, history was made in Missaukee County. I was fortunate enough to defeat a Republican incumbent for County Commissioner in the second most Republican county in the state of Michigan. However, as with many campaigns, I have debt to pay off, and several final expenses to pay. I need to raise $380 in 3 days. Can I count on you? Making a contribution is easier than ever. Just click on the link below, and make a secure, online contribution using PayPal...

OFFICIALLY ENDORSED BY MID-MICHIGAN DEMOCRACY FOR AMERICA (MMDfA)!

“Richard REALLY knows his stuff and has specific plans for improving his county.”

As I was quoted in our local daily, the Cadillac News, following my victory...

"The voters...have made a determination that the status quo is no longer acceptable, that we expect more accountability, greater openness, and transparency in county government."

Please, help me pay off my debt by raising $380 in 3 days. Just click on the link below, and make a secure, online contribution using PayPal...

Grassroots change starts at the bottom. We need ot be informed voters and make sure the candidates we're voting into local office (the offices that affect us most directly) share the progressive values we champion.

When you get to the voting booth on November 4, will you know which State Representatives, School Board Members, State Auditors, Dog-catchers shere your values. Will you even know their names?

Growvotes.org is trying to close this gap in voter ignorance through the same social networking tactics that have helped communities like DFA. Come check us out, find out who's running in your local elections and help us build a community based around the local politics that get things done close to home. Write an inactive candidate and ask them to share their views with the community. Create a ballot for election day so you know beforehand who'll you'll vote for.

We're focusing our beta efforts on New Jersey and Maryland and are looking for local associates who can help us add candidates that are not lsited yet. Espcially those at the city and county level. For more information contact us:

Regarding opening environmentally protected areas for mining and pumping oil:

There is over 200 years of oil in the 48 contiguous States that are capped up by oil companies to monopolize world energy. There is no need to violate our environmentally protected areas, just to allow oil companies to further monopolize their strangle hold over our lives.

They are creating a media frenzy just to increase the price of oil; very successfully I might add. However, there is no immediate threat for an oil shortage !!! The oil companies have ONLY created the perception that there is a shortage !!!!

I personally believe that ALL mineral rights belong to the American People, NOT souless corporations!!!

I applaud Venezuela for nationalizing the oil assets in their country!!!!

We should be doing the same thing here in the United States !!!!

Ethically Eliminate ALL Political Corruption

Vote Ines Garcia-Keim for Hudson County Freeholder tomorrow

Written by: Jake Stuiver on Jun 2, 2008 2:44 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Hudson DFA

Hi all,

I know it's been ages since you've heard from me, and technically I'm still on leave-of-absence from DFA while I complete my graduate degree, but I wanted to reach out to let you know about a strong chance we have tomorrow of getting a very special, ultra-qualified candidate elected to Hudson County's Board of Chosen Freeholders.

If you live in Hudson County's 5th District, which consists mainly of Hoboken and parts of Jersey City Heights, please go to the polls tomorrow and vote for Ines Garcia-Keim for Freeholder.  When I first moved to Hudson County in 2001, Ines was one of the very first people I met from the political scene here, and she was one of the key people who inspired me to get involved.  He has worked tirelessly for this community for decades, and there are truly few people out there as deserving of holding public office as she is.  She has honestly done 20 times more as a private citizen for the improvement of our community than many elected officials in this area have done in their entire careers.  I urge you to vote for her tomorrow and tell your friends.

If you can volunteer at all tomorrow, Ines' campaign would greatly appreciate the help, for anything from field work to challenging at the polls.  If you can help, please call 201-792-7097.

We're Co-Sponsoring Memorial Week Demonstration

Written by: Paul Eisenman on May 17, 2008 11:49 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Bergen Grassroots, DFA-Link Organizers, NJ for Democracy, Hudson DFA

Hi%%first,%%

Your Steering Committee has voted unanimously to join forces with the
Bergen County chapter of Military Families Speak Out and the Teaneck
Peace and Justice Coalition in support of their weekly vigils.  A
number of other organizations also co-sponsor the vigils. Some
Grassrooters are already regular participants and we want to encourage
all our members to support these protests; clearly, we share the
anguish at the continued illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq and
the consequent loss of life and treasure. Therefore, we will regularly
bring their activities to the attention of the 450+ members of Bergen
Grassroots.

The vigils occur every Wednesday of the year between the hours of 4:30
and 6pm at the National Guard Armory, at the southeast corner of
Liberty Road and Teaneck Road, Teaneck.

A major vigil will take place on Wednesday, May 28, rain or shine.
This will be the second annual Memorial Week Demonstration honoring
the war dead by demanding that all troops are brought home NOW!

On Wednesday of Memorial Week, hundreds of activists will join
together to display a 4,000-foot-long banner with the names of all the
US troops, interspersed with the names of many Iraqi victims of this dreadful
calamity. More than 350 volunteers are needed to hold the 200 segments
of the banner, each 20 feet long. We anticipate the banner will
surround the armory's square block when all portions are in position.
It's a dramatic display of northern New Jersey's commitment to end the

occupation and bring the troops home.

Action Alert, stop creationism, support Paul LaClair @ Kearny BOE meeting March 19th

Written by: Roger Fox on Mar 9, 2007 11:56 PM EST

Linked to groups: Hudson DFA

From the ABC website:

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=local&id=4862889

Matthew LaClair is the student at the center of attention over the issue of church and state in public schools.

LaClair accuses his history teacher, David Paszkiewicz, of going overboard when it comes to teaching religion in class at Kearny High School.

"He seemed to get nastier and nastier," LaClair said. "So on the third day, I just started recording."

LaClair used a tape recorder in class to listen to the instruction discuss matters like the Big Bang Theory.

Paszkiewicz: The Big Bang Theory is, there was nothing out there, there was no matter. But yet, nothing exploded and created something. Let me give you a clue, guys. If there's nothing there, it can't explode.

Students say that LaClair and others engaged the teacher on religious topics. At the time, Paszkiewicz asked everyone if they were comfortable with the subject matter.

But the instructor did express his views on Noah's Ark.

Paszkiewicz: Moses wrote in 1440 B.C., not that the Earth was created then. You know where I'm going with this?

Student: Were there dinosaurs on Noah's Ark?

Paszkiewicz: Short answer, yes, and it was a problem.

LaClair seemed to lead the debate over heaven and hell.

Paszkiewicz: He did everything in his power to make sure that you could go to heaven, so much so that he put your sin in his own body, suffered your pains for you, and he's saying "Please accept me, believe!" You reject that, you belong in hell.

"I knew there was a line that you don't cross in a public school," Matthew's mother, Debra LaClair said. "And one of them is giving your personal view on religion and politics."

Hudson DFA candidate, Jersey City Councilman Steven Fulop Proposes Developer Pay-to-Play Reform Initiative

Written by: Dale Hardman on Jan 4, 2007 6:23 PM EST

Linked to groups: Hudson DFA

As a member of Hudson DFA and a resident of Ward E, Jersey City, I fully support Councilman Fulop's Proposal for Developer Pay-to-Play Reform Initiative. Below is the email I was sent by Civic JC and urge all Jersey City members of the Hudson DFA to support this initiative. It is consistent with our overall Democratic Party's mission for reform at all levels of government starting with our Municipal  level of governance.

Please support the Redevelopment Pay to Play Reform ordinance.  The proposed ordinance, endorsed and supported by Civic JC would ban political contributions to local candidates and political parties from developers and their professionals.

We ask that you contact your Jersey City ward councilperson, the three at large council members and Mayor Healy by email and / or fax.  We have provided below, both email and fax numbers along with a sample message that can be cut and pasted into an email to send.

Thank you,
Dale Hardman

Support Councilman Fulop's Run to Stop Child Abuse

Written by: Jake Stuiver on Nov 1, 2006 4:57 PM EST

Linked to groups: Hudson DFA

Hi all,

Sorry I've been so out of touch lately.  School and work have got me
crazed and way out of the loop.  However, I wanted to let you know
that in case you hadn't heard, Jersey City Councilman and DFA ally
Steven Fulop is running in the NYC Marathon this weekend and doing it
to raise money for the Hudson County Child Abuse Prevention Center.
I've made a pledge and encourage all Hudson DFA members to do so as
well, whatever you can afford.

You can do it through his Web site at www.stevenfulop.com.

Things are supposed to slow down for me a bit in January, so I promise
I'll be back in the fight soon.  In the meantime, do what you know we
all gotta do and help elect Sen. Menendez next Tuesday.

Onward,

Jake
