Dear DFA Chapter,

Jim Dean suggested that we write to each DFA chapter with this important message. 

The film Stealing America: Vote by Vote premiered in NYC and LA in early August and has since been playing in various theaters around the country.  It is a very effective full length documentary by award winning film maker Dorothy Fadiman, an exposé of the critical state of our electoral system.  Dorothy made the film for every progressive group to use as an organizing tool, because we all know that no progressive agenda can get anywhere until we can swear into office those candidates we truly elect, and we can’t do that if we don’t have honest elections. 

The current schedule is shown at the end of this letter.  If your group has members near any of them, we urge you to spread the word so that as many Americans as possible become informed.  There are more details on the website http://www.stealingamericathemovie.org/.

Many people whose work brings them close to the issue of electoral integrity see what they fear is the groundwork being laid for another surprise Republican “win”.  Some would call it election theft.  Unfortunately, there is not a lot of time left for action. 

The suggestion is that each DFA chapter hold a screening of the film so that all members can learn about the issue and create enthusiasm for decisive action.  Chapters may also choose to hold fundraising events using the film as the centerpiece.  Many chapter members will also want at least one copy to show to others in their community.  Many will want to mail copies to people all over the country.  A sheet of discussion points comes with the DVD.  DVDs are only $5 each or $50 per dozen, with larger discounts for larger volume.  You may purchase the DVD through the website:  www.stealingamericathemovie.org/order_dvd.html.

Stealing America has an action website with many suggestions about how to become informed and engaged between now and Election Day. www.stealingamerica.org/getactive.  It is made for groups like DFA to explore what effective actions one individual can do, what small groups can do, and what an entire DFA chapter can do locally to make a difference.  It also has links to election integrity groups with which your chapter could partner between now and November.   The need is immediate and extends right through Election Day.

The web site can also connect you to information about your state laws, ID requirements, registration cut-off dates, the electronic equipment that is used in your state and the reported irregularities, how to monitor an election, and much much more.  It can inform you about targeted populations in your state who have had large numbers purged from the voting rolls – that need to be alerted to this and asked (and/or helped) to re-register.

Jim Dean strongly recommends that each DFA chapter that is not already playing an active role in protecting our elections, become involved.   The more people who are informed and aware, and the more who are taking action, the safer we will all be in November if we are again handed highly suspicious election outcomes.
