What's the real issue?

Homosexuality is a sin? So are Lust, Gluttony (including withholding from the needy...hm...such as social programs?), Greed, Sloth (which was originally defined as sadness, dispair, depression), Wrath, Envy, and Pride. Not to mention other sins that are considered "grave sins": Taking advantage of the poor (Exodus 2:23) and defrauding the workingman of his wages (James 4:5).

The word homosexual does not appear anywhere in the Bible and there are only seven brief passages that deal with homosexual behavior. One of the passages that are used as proof that homosexuality should be prohibited goes on to say that any man who touches a woman during her menstrual period is to be stoned to death, that adulterers are to be executed, that interracial marriage is wrong, that two types of clothing should not be worn together, and certain food must never be eaten.

In Romans where Paul discusses this behavior, he is talking about older men keeping younger boys for sexual exploitation - a child sexual predator lifestyle. Paul also told women not to teach, cut their hair, speak in church. He then tells slaves to obey their masters, not once, but five times. The Southern slave owners argued 150 years ago that slavery was God's will. How is that different from this discussion today?

Paul tells us to follow Christ, not him, and Christ's foremost preaching was for us to love our neighbors, work for peace and reconciliation among all people, and leave judgment to God.

I just don't believe that sexual orientation has anything to do with morality any more than being dark skinned, blue-eyed, or left handed does. For the government to sit in judgment of that is dangerous and discrimminatory.

Maybe if people didn't parade sex across the TV screen for the promise of the almighty dollar, or prey on the young and innocent for their perversions, dealing with this at a young age wouldn't be necessary. As for me, I want my grandson to be equipped in an AGE APPROPRIATE way to deal with lewd advances. It's like the bill that McCain tried to twist into "sex education for kindergarteners" all the while omitting the "age appropriate" designation written into it. Just to try to win an election. Shame on him.

When you can't talk about things that really matter - economy, healthcare, education costs, job loss, etc.... you have to go to these sorts of things to make people pay attention. I still think when people fill their gas tanks, check out at the grocery, try to get coverage for a medical procedure, or send their kids to college, what people do in the privacy of their own homes in loving relationships is not going to be their top priority.
