Democrat's Failure of Will

Ned Lamont won the Democratic primary by standing up to President Bush's war agenda through its proxy Sen. Joseph Lieberman. However, Mr. Lamont has now shown his true Democrat colours and has utterly abandoned those who won him the primary, the antiwar and social justice minded.

On Sept.7 the Connecticut Post reported on Ned Lamont's spineless turnaround (http://www.connpost .com/elections/ ci_4298962). Mr Lamont has come out against censure and impeachment proceedings saying "I don't see anything that would be an impeachable offense." Unfortunately, this statement reveals Mr. Lamont's ignorance of current affairs as well as his lack of constitutional courage.

Further revealing his militaristic stripes Mr. Lamont has made it known that "he would not support efforts to withhold defense funding as a means of ending the war." Funding of course is one of the major tools that the legislature has at its disposal to oppose executive abuse of power. The other is investigation, whose culmination would be censure or impeachment; Mr. Lamont has made it clear that he has no interest in pursuing either.

I send this out to you all because it illustrates a point that I and other Green Party candidates such as Ned Lamont's senatorial opponent Ralph Ferrucci have been making throughout the 2006 campaign--neither party can be trusted to genuinely oppose violence, war, and the rampant militarism of our society.

The Green Party and its candidates are the only option in this year's election for any and all who want an immediate end to hostility.

Ned Lamont's flipflop is not a surprise. My opponent for US House of Representatives, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, has failed to oppose the administration's warmongering. Rep. DeLauro like all Democrats merely wants to fight the war differently, she and the Democratic leadership have no desire to end the killing.

Security can only come about through Peace.
