As our economic crisis continues to worsen, some of the most vulnerable among us can not speak for themselves - Unwanted and abandoned pets. Missaukee Humane Society (MHS) is a small shelter in rural Northern Michigan, dependent on contributions to continue their mission of mercy. MHS is one of the only no-kill animal shelters left in Michigan. They are currently running on a deficit, and at full capacity. Many mornings, the staff arrives to find abandoned pets, left overnight by owners who can no longer afford to feed or care for them.

$10,000 could save literally hundreds of abandoned pets - Pets that give us nothing but unconditional love in exchange for an occasional pat on the head, game of fetch, and a couple of bowls filled with food and fresh water.

Our 4th Annual DFA at the Beach party is just two weeks away - Saturday afternoon, August 16th at 2pm we take over Moby's Deck in the Highlands. No meeting. No work. Just pure summer fun. My name is Peter Kenny I’m the Former Youth Council Vice President of North Brunswick NJ. I am running for Councilman for my town however I really need help with my campaign I need volunteer’s to help me out. If your interested please give me a call at 732-710-8850. What I need is only 1 day a week 1 or 2 hours only what you will be doing if you volunteer is Pass out flyers, get the word out, help me raise money, go door to door, host a campaign rally, put up campaign signs, make phone calls ect. OBSERVE VETERANS DAY WITH IAVA VETERANS

North Jersey: The statewide observance will take place on the Bergenfield Green, 198 North Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, NJ at 11am on Saturday. I encourage you to arrive at 10:45.

South/Central Jersey: The statewide observance will take place at the Somerset County Veterans Memorial Plaza in Somerville, NJ at 11am on Saturday. I encourage you to arrive at 10:45.

All veterans, new and old, are welcome to the ceremonies, as are all antiwar activists. The annual Veterans' Day observance honors all veterans of past American wars.

It would be great if our members from all over NJ could attend, especially our Veterans. Let's tell the IAVA members we admire their courage and that our only argument is with the administration that sent them there, certainly not with them.

And don't forget to wear your DFA and local grassroots buttons!
