Is this the best Georgia can do? Redneck Hillbilly Georgia?
Mark Taylor, Jin Martin its enough to make one a republican. Sure its selling your "soul" but it is winning. Hell Clinton did it, Kennedy did it, Carter did it. You don't have to be a Zell Miller to win. I left New Mexico in the clutches of two republican senators and a republican governor for Georgia which had two democratic senators and a democratic governor.
You don't sell your chances of winning by being principled or not playing the game. Republican will always call any Democrat a "liberal" out of touch with Georgia values so make it hard for them to do so.
Be a politician appeal to all areas at the risk of upsetting those whose stands doom any candidacy from the start. I know! I was for Edward Kennedy in 1980. I was against Nuclear Waste . I was a veritable "liberal". The same people who are accusing Obama of selling out, sell Georgia short. He is governing!
Dont get a dyed in the wool true beleiver and have him or her take conservitive positions. It won't be beleivable so it won't work. This is redneck Georgia! Get a dyed in the wool conservative and run him and as he campaigns have him take progressive stances. Sure it won't be beleivable either but this is Redneck Georgia! The hillbillies will not beleive his liberalism and elect him.
I know this is pure bull but I am feeling very much a loser and felt good when Obama actually won yet Georgia seems to take pride in bucking National trends. Hey maybe thats it. I should move again! Massachusetts or Oregon or Alaska anything except Redneck Georgia!

- Quiters never win
By publius on Dec 4, 2008 7:49 PM ESTIt is a shame to hand Chambliss a 6 year term when even his first term was undeserved and his record since cried out for accountability and voter rejection.
As a renewable energy advocate and professional I find it is even more disheartening that Lauren 'Bubba' McDonald - a past GA Democratic Political Hack par excellence - was elected to the Public Service Commission despite his Nuclear plant advocacy.
Running now as a Republican opportunist, McDonald had a margin of victory almost identical to that of Chambliss just because he was the Republican on the ticket.
We have to build the stae democratic party from the ground up here now.
I sincerely thank Jim Martin, PSC Candidate Jim Powell and their many supporters for all the hard work they put in on this campaign. Georgia's future depends on year round party building and strong grassroots financial support.
