The Real McCain
Two weeks ago, DFA members told us to get involved in the presidential primaries. Over the course of the next year, our community will be called on by candidates to volunteer, to give money and to get our friends and family to the polls.
Democracy for America grew out of the first ever use of the web to create a people's campaign based on transparency and not reliant on the corporate media. While that corporate media was less than kind to our founder, Howard Dean, it seems to be doing the opposite with John McCain. We are sure that Senator McCain is war hero, but we are equally sure that the media has given him a pass on his penchant for flip-flopping.
McCain's "straight talk" seems to us to be double talk.
We partnered with our friends at Brave New Films to be the first to distribute the Real John McCain, a two minute fifty second video that shows us McCain in his own words. Watch for yourself:

The DFA Plan to Move America Forward
The DFA Plan to Move America Forward is a roadmap for progressives over the next 22 months. It lays out an action-packed agenda that begins with training and civic engagement in 2007; grows the DFA community in size and strength through the presidential primaries of next year; and culminates in decisive victory for hundreds of DFA candidates on November 4, 2008.
The Plan is ambitious. Since November of last year, we've been asking your advice and collecting your input on our direction for the next two years. This plan will help the progressive movement organize, mobilize and win! It will require hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours and millions of dollars, but victory is worth the commitment!

President Who?
America will elect a new President next year. While the election is more than 20 months away, the race has begun.
Individually, Democracy for America members will choose their favorite candidates. But, collectively, DFA has an opportunity to influence the presidential primary process and the candidates' positions. Imagine a nominee who shares your values with the power of Democracy for America on his or her side.
It's up to DFA members to decide if we should jump into the presidential primaries as an organization. You steer DFA. Will you help make this decision?

America Says "NO!"
President Bush has the hardest time accepting the concept of "NO!" According to a new USA Today/Gallup poll, 61% of Americans oppose sending more U.S. troops to Iraq.
Nevertheless, President Bush will announce his new way forward and it will sound a lot like "stay the course." Twenty thousand more troops and another set of repetitive unrealistic goals is more of the same.
This Thursday we must stand up and tell George Bush, "No!" Democracy for America is partnering with many of our progressive partners in hosting public rallies against an escalation of the Iraq War. Will you attend an event near you?

Be It Resolved
Happy New Year!
Are you ready to get started? Now is the time to make New Year Political Resolutions. If you take a few minutes and make up to seven personal commitments to action over the next year, you will join DFA activists in setting goals that move America forward.
www.democracyforamerica.com/resolutions
Think about what issues motivate you and what you want to achieve this year. Then make your resolutions to make it happen. One of your commitments might be as simple as writing a letter to the editor each month, or as ambitious as running for local office. You could commit to bringing a friend to three DFA events. Or set up a meeting with your congressperson to promote an important local cause.
One thing is for sure: 2007 is going to be a big year for progressives. You decide how big and then resolve to get it done.
