Final Round Voting Starts Now
After 38,398 votes, the first round of nominations for the DFA 2008 Grassroots All-Star endorsement is over. Your votes propelled three candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives to the final All-Star voting round. Now, this is your chance to choose the winner!
Listed in the order of their final vote count, here are your All-Star finalist:
Nancy Skinner - Michigan District 9
![]() |
Nancy ran in 2006 against 14-year incumbent Republican Joe Knollenberg. She fought hard, ran a people-powered campaign and drove the progressive movement forward. Out-spent nearly 7 to 1, Nancy astonished the Republican establishment by forcing the smallest victory margin in Representative Knollenberg's 8 elections.
Nancy knows what she needs to do to win, but she can't do it without your help. Read more about her campaign or cast your vote now:

Larry Kissell - North Carolina District 8
![]() |
Larry is another example of a hard earned, people-powered campaign that drove the progressive movement forward while just missing victory in 2006. Incumbent Republican Robin Hayes out spent Larry by millions, yet Larry's campaign came only 330 votes short of victory.
Larry has never stopped fighting to win, but he needs your help to take his campaign over the top. Read more about his campaign or cast your vote now:

Roy Carter - North Carolina District 5
![]() |
Roy's campaign is off and running, building incredible support in a formally "written-off" district. Roy has an uphill battle in this district that voted 67% for President Bush in 2000 and 2004. Incumbent Republican Virginia Foxx can't wait to help President Bush at every turn, repeatedly voting for the worst her party has to offer.
Roy is working to win and you can offer the boost he'll need to make this race competitive. Read more about his campaign or cast your vote now:

With all the media attention on the presidential primaries, it would be easy to think they are the only elections in 2008.
That's why for the next three weeks, while the pundits go crazy talking about polling data that's probably wrong, we're going to focus on the 2008 races that will deliver a progressive Congress.

The Real McCain
Two months ago, John McCain’s presidential campaign looked dead in the water to most. But his New Hampshire primary victory propels him back into the top tier of the Republican field.
Senator McCain has regularly been given a pass by the media on his penchant for flip-flopping position to show loyal support for President Bush.
Last January, we partnered with our friends at Brave New Films to be the first to distribute the Real John McCain, a two minute fifty second video that shows us McCain in his own words. It’s McCain vs. McCain.
McCain's "straight talk" is really just double talk.
Watch it for yourself:

We'll be sharing the truth about the Republican nominee this year, whether the media will or not. The contrasts between candidates who fight for progressive values and those who fight for the republican agenda are clear.
America wants a new direction. In 2008, progressive values will beat the Republicans every single time.

You did it! Progressives Unite in Iowa.
You did it!
The DFA Unite for a Progressive President Campaign was a huge success and helped propel Senators Obama and Edwards to first and second place victories in Iowa.
A year ago, the pundits and beltway Democrats said this race was a forgone conclusion. Over the last two months, you made it a dead heat on the ground in Iowa.
Tonight: Progressives Won!
The nomination is far from over. New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina are coming up fast. And, Super Tuesday could decide the nomination.
With your help, we will continue to make history. You did it in Iowa. Let's do it again across the nation. Contribute $15 right now and support our campaign for a progressive president.

Four years ago, most of the candidates would not even consider bringing our troops home from Iraq. Now every candidate has a plan to end the war.
We haven't had a national discussion about Health Care since the Clinton plan failed in 1993. Now, every candidate has a health care plan.
This year, global warming went mainstream and every candidate has a plan to fight climate crisis.
This is not 2000. This is not 2004.
This year, progressive values have taken center stage because of you. With the DFA presidential Primary petitions, you demanded the candidates take strong positions. They responded directly to DFA in videos and 'Vote for Me' email messages. They took your issues and made it the core of their campaigns.
In 2008, progressive values will beat the Republicans every single time. We are leading the party and moving America forward. And, we're doing it together.
