Field/Political Interns

Field/Political interns are the first line of support for our groups in turning online activism into national change.  Interns will participate in shaping public policy, electing progressive officials, and fighting in the trenches to tackle some of the biggest issues facing the country today; healthcare, the environment, foreign policy, renewable energy, the economy, etc.   Interns will be directly involved in researching, selecting, and endorsing the next generation of progressive politicians, while working directly with more than 800 local DFA groups across the country.

If you want to play a direct role in promoting progressive politics, researching the necessary issues, working alongside national coalitions and affiliated groups, while possibly traveling the country, this is the internship for you. A political background is encouraged, while extensive research and writing skills are a must.

Communications Interns

Help get DFA in the news! Become a vital part of the communications department by assisting with research, writing, editing, media tracking, and e-mail correspondence. Communications interns use new media and other sources to spread Democracy for America's message across the nation and keep our members current and informed. You should have excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task.

Research Interns

DFA’s fundraising department makes sure the organization has the resources we need to mobilize thousands of grassroots activists, support progressive candidates and make change happen.  As a research intern, you will be responsible for determining current and prospective donors’ giving capacity and interests, maintaining communication with some of our most supportive donors and tracking the performance of DFA’s principle fundraisers.

This is a great opportunity to learn the heart and soul of any political campaign or advocacy organization – the money, where it comes from and how it is raised.  You’ll be a key member of our fundraising team, so we need you to be a multi-tasker who is thorough, detail-oriented, well-organized and has a great sense of humor.

Training Interns

Every year, the training staff travels across the country putting on two-day crash courses in political activism. As a training intern, you will work in a fast-paced environment, helping to organize the trainings and coordinating with our amazing group of trainers, activists and online organizers. In so doing, you will learn the fundamentals of event organizing and familiarize yourself with our training manual and materials.

Technology Interns

If you have computer skills, the Tech department is the place for you. You will assist our Tech Director by helping with systems administration or coding Ruby on Rails applications. All tasks require you to work quickly and independently.
