Legislative & Political Director at @NJCitizenAction. Chapter Director of @NLC_NJ. Candidate for Ewing school board. Caffeine addict, feminist and Twihard.

A little about me

I am deeply committed to social equality and progressive leadership and am able to tackle these issues everyday as the Political & Legislative Director for New Jersey’s largest citizen watchdog organization, NJ Citizen Action (@NJCitizenAction). Prior to joining NJCA, I served as the NJ State Director for Organizing for America (@OFA_NJ) through the 2010 midterms. A feminist above all else, I formalized my activist schooling fighting the G.W. Bush era White House to preserve reproductive rights, working my way up from a campus organizer to the Field Director of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of NJ (@womenshealthnj) over the course of 7+ years.

I’m privileged to give back to my community as a mentor and an advisory board member of the Women In Learning and Leadership (WILL) Program at my alma mater, The College of New Jersey. Additionally, as the Founding Director of the NJ chapter of the New Leaders Council (@NLC_NJ), the nation's fastest growing entrepreneurial leadership program, I train the next generation of young progressive professionals.

My husband and I moved back to my college town outside of Trenton in the fall of 2008, where I am a current candidate for local school board and immersed in local and county politics.

Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship

While I am usually the person at the table with the most social media experience and training, I know there is so, so much more to learn. In attending Netroots Nation, I can share the skills and resources the information among my various networks, from the college girls I mentor to my professional and political colleagues. Sponsoring my trip to Netroots Nation would put critical tools into the hands of countless New Jersey progressives.

What first inspired me to get involved

The first time I ever personally organized my community into action was as a junior in high school after watching a documentary on iodine deficiency disorders in India. I was enraged treatment was as cheap as a nickel a week in iodized salt but people were suffering across the globe. It wasn’t until early 2003 as a college organizer with Planned Parenthood that I learned how to engage and inspire others to take action and get involved online.
