A little about me

On the rebound from the economic downturn & fallout from the corporate world, I have found myself in love again with the City of New Orleans. Still unsure of what lies ahead but know now that what I am, will be is here, has always been, all along.

As a kid, I didn’t like being labeled underprivileged so I made it a mission to create my own opportunities when there are none and to seize every opportunity if and when it presents itself. Oftentimes out of spontaneity, I will knowingly seek out the impossible and challenge the unconquerable. I’ll fall down just to get back up again.

In my current job, I function like a liaison, a facilitator, a messenger and so, my thoughts and opinions really don't count. I've set all that aside to make sure the voice of the community is heard and that the messages I bring radiate hope, faith and joy. New Orleans is a beautiful mosaic, each neighborhood though so different, really are made for each other. I've experienced & learned so much by becoming part of the many different communities in New Orleans, how can I explain the tears and laughter that surrounds me each and every day? From the outside looking in, you can’t understand it but from the inside looking out, you just can’t explain it.

It’s been and will be a rough ride but I’m here, still defying fortune’s spite.

I would describe myself as a

lurker

Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship

I'm not a writer or speaker, never had formal training in the arts of communication but want to be part of this year's Netroots Nation national conference. I need some help getting there. Would you please lend me your support?

What first inspired me to get involved

When I was a school kid on a field trip, I witnessed a homeless person receiving some bread and the simple smiles that were exchanged meant something really special to me. So I bought ice cream hoping to give it to someone else for a smile in exchange. I guess the teachers and chaperones guided us strategically away from the homeless. By the time, I spotted a man in the alley, my ice cream already melted.

How I've gotten others involved

People inspired me by their involvement. So if I am involved, I just might inspire others.
