A little about me
I am a student of philosophy and IT Professional. Blogs and online discourse have been my passion for 10 years, and I have firm conviction to stand against the stupidity which deluges the American political conversation.
I would describe myself as a
blogger
Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship
When the Montana online left was in it's infancy, I worked hard to promote it's growth, at times at my own expense. I believe strongly in the message that can be conveyed by such promotion, and the betterment of my state through that effort. Netroots Nation can assist me in that effort.
I manage these blogs
Left In The WestA Chicken Is Not Pillage
The blogs I use most are
4 & 20 BlackbirdsBalloon Juice
What first inspired me to get involved
A good friend had a blog to keep in touch with people at far distance. I became a sometimes contentious part of the blog community, and started my own blog at the urging of some of my rightward blogging friends.
How I've gotten others involved
Challenging others with links, sometimes contrary opinion, and offering support both logistic and technical. Disagreement can be great motivator, especially if inspired by help to disagree with the helper.
The blog post I am most proud of
http://www.leftinthewest.com/diary/1910/
Why I think participation in the blogosphere is important
Communication as motivation. It is that simple.
More about my involvement with DFA and local work
No. I have volunteered on various political campaigns since I was 14, the most latest being phone-banking for Jon Tester in 2006. I started way back when handing out flyers for Max Baucus in 1976.
More about my volunteer work
Please see the above.
My Twitter manifesto on online activism
I have been fortunate to witness online activism motivate a campaign of youth vote the propelled a farmer over a long term DC insider. Slacktivists? Hardly.
My suggested bumper sticker slogan
A Wolf doesn't get farm subsidy just because it howls
My idea for a cool new online action
Local business drives jobs, and community involvement. Many online activists treat local business followers or friend requests almost as if spam. Local business promotion *is* local community development, and helping promote those wins friends for social activism. Promote community development groups by promoting local business online. Much more to be said, and probably not my *wildest* idea, but certainly one most prone to be effective. If one wants wild ideas, I suggest following Anonymous.
