A little about me
My parents immigrated to the United States from India in the 1970s. I am the oldest of six children. I have been active in working for the transformation of our criminal justice system and public education system. I believe that all people are uniquely valuable and have great gifts to offer to the world. I am interested in alternative health, natural birthing, intentional parenting, education, and using deep, meaningful dialogue to build bridges across race, gender, class, immigration status, sexuality, and more. I am a mother of two beautiful, bright children, age 2 and 4.

Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship
Welcoming America is a start-up with only 3 staff members at its national desk. A scholarship to attend the Netroots Conference would be very helpful to us. I am interested in attending the Netroots Conference because we are launching an online program called Friends of Welcoming next month. This online program will be an innovative way for people who are interested in building more welcoming and inclusive communities to get involved in an exciting and deep way. This online tool will engage participants and guide them in organizing dialogues and events in their hometowns. It will allow them to connect with other interested people and get support and build community. I am excited to attend the conference and learn more about using innovative online approaches to engage and connect people.
What first inspired me to get involved
My early learning of this country's history and my own experience as it intersected with that history inspired me to get involved. In elementary school, I learned about slavery, segregation, and human rights movements. At the same time, I was experiencing discrimination and racism at school and in my community. The combination of learning and experience propelled me to become a force for making change.
How I've gotten others involved
I have inspired others with my own involvement. I have remained politically active while growing and learning as a person. I have remained politically active while being a loving friend, family member, and mother. I try to offer people my full attention and belief in them and serve as a witness to their growth and blossoming.
More about my involvement with DFA and local work
No. I am excited to learn more and become active.
