A little about me
I grew up in immense poverty, many times without even a place to sleep. I quickly became tired of injustice and in February of 2011 formed Defending Wisconsin PAC. Since then I have led civil disobedience action that has forced the Wisconsin Department of Administration to remove an unconstitutional policy. I have also built a fairly large network on both Facebook and Youtube and maintained a daily presence at the Capitol. In this endeavor I have been called “The Big Bad Wolf” and “Public Enemy Number 1” by Scott Walker and am scorned by the very people who seek to take our freedoms away, a feat I am very proud of.
Although the main mission has been to maintain a presence and to record and document what happens so that all can know, I have also been a source of investigative information. Defending Wisconsin was the group that leaked the information on WI Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and his shady taxes as well as the information on the 2006 abnormalities in Waukesha County, something that still to this day has yet to be explained by the Government Accountability Board. I figure after having survived five cardiac arrests and two cancers defending democracy is manageable and I fight every day to do so.

Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship
I have sought to defend our democracy and continue to fight against the media blackout of the protests in Wisconsin. I continue to try to encourage others of the power of one voice and one person through my actions. I have not done anything that anyone else couldn't have done. So I try to use my accomplishments as an example for the power that everyone has.

What first inspired me to get involved
Short and simple, I thought that things had gone to far and continue to assert the notion that the current GOP has waged war on the middle class and I love my country and my state too much to let us see a slowly diminishing middle class and the beginning of third world status.

By showing others what power one person has to amass real change.

I am Executive Director of Defending Wisconsin Political Action Committee, a very small PAC with a very large scope. This is a full time volunteer position.

A little bit about the nominee:
Jeremy has been a consistent demonstrator and active participant in the mainstream media block on the Madison demonstrations. He also keeps Wisconsinites informed of new developments, and provides several means for people to communicate and organize against Walker's administration assault on workers' rights.
Tell us why your nominee deserves a Netroots Nation Scholarship:
Jeremy Ryan fights tirelessly for the well being of citizens in this State. He deserves a scholarship for his commitment to the middle and low income class of Wisconsin. He deserves a scholarship for standing for freedom of speech in the Capitol building, and for being a strong voice for us in the alternative media outlets, even when the local media has disregarded the issues that people are fighting against.
How has the nominee inspired others to get involved?
As mentioned before, he has created a small network of facebook pages, and http://www.defendingwisconsin.org Which provide activists and with a voice and ways to organizes for people who do not approve of Walker's poor performance, and corrupt practices.

I truly believe he deserves recognition for his hard work on spreading the word on the injustices that Walker administration are doing to the people of Wisconsin. He is a true concerned citizen for the welfare of the poor and the middle class. We need to inspire people to be as committed as he is.
