My personal volunteering highlight:
In truth, I really haven't done a lot of this. The only activist stuff I've done recently was volunteering for Barack Obama a few times (phonebanking twice and canvassing once). While I was canvassing, I did talk 2 former Hillary Clinton supporters into voting for Obama, so that was pretty cool. I've also been at several Iraq war protests. I'd like to do a ton more of this, but one step at a time.
If it helps, I did some fundraising in the past for the American Cancer Society in Boulder County, raising over $10,000 in 2002 for their Relay for Life cancer awareness walk.
More about my volunteering with DFA:
None yet!
More about my volunteering with progressive organizations:
Man, now I feel like a slacker.
More about my work on current campaigns and issues:
Time will tell on this, but I'd like to be working for a liberal Colorado politician in the near future, especially looking forward to 2010. And yes, I realize that I'll have to tone down my swearing quite a bit. Damn.
What motivates me:
I'm extremely passionate about politics in 2009, because politics determines how my daughter will live and function when she becomes an adult. That passion is very easy for me to tap into on a daily basis, and I blame the womb. Also, the DKos community really helped me to find my political voice. I know that my significant issues (the ones that I truly rail against) are sexism, racism, homophobia, class wars, and Israel/Palestine. I stay active because my kid is worth it, and so am I.
How I try to motivate others:
I suppose I motivate others by being true to myself and writing about what I know. Wait, is this a trick question?!
Where I see myself in five years:
Oh man! I would imagine that I'll be ticking people off by writing the truth, and hopefully inspiring the need for reform and change as well.
Blogging
I contribute posts to these blogs:

I read these blogs often:
Daily Kos

Participation in the blogosphere is important because...
At least for me, participation on a political blog is the stepping stone to activism. It's true that I also use DKos to whine, vent, and bond with other Kossacks, but blogging gives voice to concerns and criticisms of the current political structure. Changing that structure is the next logical step.
A Little Bit About Colorado is the Shiznit
I'm an assertive, unemployed, and friendly single mother of an 9-year-old daughter. I mostly enjoy talking like an idiot. I'm a writer, a singer, and a leftist political junkie. Having recently gone through a few hospital stays and a lengthy custody battle with my ex-husband, I am on the road to recovery, both physically and emotionally. Now that I've gone through all this crap, I'm convinced that I can make it through anything.
Why I Deserve a Scholarship to Attend
Since I studied Classical Voice Performance in college, it took me a long time afterwards to figure out what to do with my life. The incarnations of reality I've had were social work (but I figured I'd need a lot more money for that one) and human resources. Unfortunately, human resources is presently Not Hiring. So thanks to Daily Kos, I currently aspire to work in social media, as either a paid blogger for a Democratic political campaign, or a paid blogger for a DFH outfit. Either one would totally rock.
