My personal volunteering highlight:
I'm a radio person. After spending many years playing music on the radio, I became aware of how our country was being destroyed by the Bush administration, and I moved into talk radio. As the only local host on Miami's then-progressive talk radio station, I worked hard at bringing progressive candidates and representatives on the air and made sure their voices were heard.
More about my volunteering with DFA:
I've been in discussions with Wendy Sejour, president of DFAMiami about working with then on a podcast dealing with South Florida issues.
More about my volunteering with progressive organizations:
I'm not active with any organizations, but try to cover many of them on my podcast and on Air America during my frequent guest-hosting stints. David Swanson of AfterDowningStreet.org, Bob Fertik of Democrats.com and Kevin Zeese are all frequent guests who come on my show to get the word out about what they're doing.
More about my work on current campaigns and issues:
My pet issues are Health Care Reform and the need for a Single Payer system, Campaign Finance Reform, Gay Rights and Marriage Equality.
What motivates me:
My daughter. She's 10 years old and I want her to live in a better world than the one we have today.
How I try to motivate others:
By talking about the things that are important to us, and reminding them that nothing will change unless we insist, strongly, on change!
Where I see myself in five years:
Using my talent and experience as a broadcaster and interviewer and teaming up with others to promote truly progressive candidates and helping convince elected officials to do the right things.
My suggested bumper sticker slogan for the Stand with Dr. Dean campaign:
Dr. Dean's orders: Healthcare for all!

I read these blogs often:
Matt Taibbi
Glenn Greenwald
Participation in the blogosphere is important because...
I think an open dialog about the issues affecting all of us is what takes place on a good blog. Blogging and commenting on others blogs allows everyone to voice an opinion, and readers are then able to take all points of view into account when forming their own opinions.
A Little Bit About nicolesandler
I'm a single mom, through adoption, and am struggling in this economy. I've enjoyed much success during my 25+ year radio career, but have had to re-invent myself many times. After being downsized from my morning radio gig on Miami's former Progressive Talk Station, I've taken to the internet with a podcast and blog at www.radioornot.com.
Why I Deserve a Scholarship to Attend
My patriotism and activism came a little late in life. After a long and successful career as a rock radio personality, I realized what a mess was made of this country by the previous administration. I then made the transition to talk as a morning host on progressive talk radio.
When I was downsized by Clear Channel, I started my own blog and podcast at www.radioornot.com, in addition to a side gig at Air America Radio as one of their primary guest hosts.
I'm working on my own career while trying to make a difference with my content.
