Name: Dewaun Walker
Location: Forest, MS

My personal volunteering highlight:

Feb 2007. My best friend decided he would run for public office and he chose me as his Campaign Manager. For the next several months, I was inducted into politics. Even though we gained 49% of the vote, the campaign taught me the "hows" and "whos" in my local politics-that's something I'll never forget.

More about my volunteering with progressive organizations:

I'm a committeman on the Scott County Democratic Executive Committee. Just recently, I volunteered many hours registering first-time, young voters. I have also, with help from my collegeus, aided in revitalizing the Democratic Party in our county through various civic programs. Gatherings such as The Pastoral's Prayer Breakfast, which combined all area ministers to acheive one purpose-strategize revitalization, I spent a vast quanity of my time volunteering to ensure success.

What motivates me:

What motivates me is the youth of our nation. Tommorrow is their day, today is my day to place my indentation on how politics is shaped for the future.

How I try to motivate others:

I motivate others through my service. To teach someone anything, you must show them. I display my service so that others can see that when we all work, even infinity isn't the limit.

Where I see myself in five years:

Five years from now, I see myself holding public office as an agent in the progressive movement.

My suggested bumper sticker slogan for the Stand with Dr. Dean campaign:

WANTED---Universal Health Care----Take a Stand w/ Dr. Dean

A Little Bit About Dewaun Walker

For beginners, I'M A PROGRESSIVE LEADER! I enjoy seeing things move forward. I am a teacher's assistant at Forest Head Start, youth director of Concord M. B. There is no better purpose served on this Earth than offering service and love.

Why I Deserve a Scholarship to Attend

A 26 year old male, from Mississippi, with a progressive agenda? That should be enough!! Seriously, I believe I should be awarded this scholarship because of how I live my life. Growing up and coming from a low-income, single-parent family, taught me one thing: be humble. My humbleness has aided in creating a network from which I appreciate. Working from the ground up, as I continue to do, formulates binding friendships-this is exactly what Netroots Nation is all about, thi is exactly why I should earn a DFA Netroots Nation scholarship!
