Timroff

Name: Timroff
Location: Cleveland, OH

My personal volunteering highlight:

Last year I played a significant role in organizing and running Netroots For The Troops, an online effort that raised thousands of dollars and built 130 care packages sent to soldiers serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.

More about my volunteering with DFA:

I have participated in DFA in Cleveland for the last 3 years, helping host events, attend planning meetings and actively promote the organization.

What motivates me:

My father taught me that you can't complain about the government unless you vote, and, more importantly, you can't demand change from that government unless you actively participate in making the change happen.

How I try to motivate others:

Lead by example. Educate. Participate.

Where I see myself in five years:

I plan to remain astutely aware and aggressively active.

My suggested bumper sticker slogan for the Stand with Dr. Dean campaign:

A Public Option is the Healthy Choice!

I read these blogs often:
Daily Kos

Participation in the blogosphere is important because...

America got its start with a bunch of folks standing on street corners trying to tell those gathered around them the truth, while warning against complacency and corruption.
Blogs are the 21st Century street corner, and bloggers are the people who are still trying to educate and warn the masses, organizing opposition while providing support and solace to victims of wrongdoing and those who are simply less fortunate.

A Little Bit About Timroff

I am, at times, a graphic artist, urban farmer, citizen journalist/blogger, chef, peace activist, husband, social engineer, volunteer coordinator, guitarist, lay minister, film critic, elections watchdog and local DFA organizer. I blog regularly on Dailykos, am a co-organizer of Netroots For the Troops, and occasionally contribute at ePluribus Media, Docudharma, La Vida Locavore and Street Prophets. I've hosted major liveblogs, participated in the feeding america marathons and wrote extensively about my father's fight with lung cancer.

Why I Deserve a Scholarship to Attend

After being laid-off from my job as a magazine production manager and attempting to start a major Greenhouse Project, I find my plans to mobilize the on-site operations of Netroots For The Troops, help lead a Saturday night hootenanny, participate in Pastor Dan's Sunday Service and attend sessions on local food politics severely hampered. Getting there is no problem, as we live only 2 hours away from Pittsburgh, but getting through the door is going to be an altogether different problem.
