A little about me

My name is Daniel Connors and I am a full-time student at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. I am the Chief Financial Officer of the Florida College Democrats and a (Self-Described) Progressive Fighter! I have a wonderful family with a brother active duty Air Force and a sister-in-law who is a Air Force Veteran, a Mother who helps the elderly to walk as a Physical Therapist Assistant, and a Father who is a disabled Army veteran and has worked hard to help me throughout life. I am stronger because the people I have been blessed to associate with as a proud Boyfriend, Brother, Uncle, Brother-in-law, Son, Grandson, and even Great Grandson, I have truly been blessed!

Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship

As the Chief Financial Officer of the Florida College Democrats, I am committed to the ideas of Netroots and DFA. I look forward to getting to meet the wonderful people who get Progressive ideas that are not heard on typical news channels. I am a full-time student and would be very honored if I could represent the wonderful people of the State of Florida, Florida College Democrats, and the people of my hometown, Apopka, Florida as a Netroots Nation Scholar! As a Full-time student, it would not be able to make this trip otherwise and I promise I won't let my supporters down and will utilize everything I learn and share my knowledge when I return. Thank you!

Why I got involved

The War in Iraq after my Brother enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, got married, and had twin boys and he was still on the slate to go to Iraq. It was really something I wanted no father or family member to go through.

How I've gotten others involved

I have just showed my passion when ever the topic of politics is involved and the goal is to listen to people get talk with them and then show them how they can have their "voices" heard whether that be online or writing their public officials.

Participation in the blogosphere is important because...

I think as a commenter that supporting our bloggers and giving them more content of interest and information on a subject maybe one of the most important things we can do. I know living in the Florida capital city, I have access to things here that my blogger friends in Miami may not necessarily have access to and I am always willing to share! Consumer-Generated Media at its best.

More about my work with DFA

I attempt to stay active on DFA activities and have recently talked with Arshad Hasan and Franco Caliz (Miami) about starting a North Florida DFA chapter to support our wonderful Progressive candidates in North Florida. I have attended a Campaign Training in Jacksonville, Florida and look forward to the next one I can attend and I have supported candidates with small donations in your Primaries Matter when I can!

More about my volunteer work

I have been supporting Al Lawson when I am Tallahassee and my home, Congressman with Guts, Alan Grayson when I am in Orlando. I love working for progressive candidates and their campaigns and I think they will change American when they win their primaries and their elections! I also worked for a short while with PDA to attempt and pass HR 767 but that chapter has recently disappeared.

My Twitter manifesto on why online activism work

We have influence and support you and your agenda support ours or we will find someone else!

My Twitter pitch on why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship

I see Netroots Nation as the equivalent to the Conservative CPAC but better and I see it getting bigger and better every year and I want to help make it stronger!

My suggested bumper sticker slogan for Primaries Matter

Hey Congress! Vote progressive or WE will!

My idea for a cool new online action

I have been mulling over the idea of using the Initiative process as an online thing. I live in a state that allows Initiatives to become amendments to the state constitution and I think this could be a powerful tool for progressives in a state dominated by Conservatives and closed-minded politicians.
