About the Petition
In order to stop fracking, we need to have an alternative. I have started a petition on the White House “We, the people” Website ordering the US Department of Energy to conduct a study on transitioning to renewable energy by 2030 without fossil fuel or nuclear power.
I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People, a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. Will you add your name to mine? If this petition gets 100,000 signatures by March 22, 2013, the White House will review it and respond!
We the People, allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response.

Here's some more information about this petition:
According to a new study, “The Six Degrees of Climate Change” by Yale University and George Mason University Studies excerpted on the Daily Kos:
* Reducing our dependence on foreign oil, creating green jobs and improving the economy are ranked among the top five benefits by all Six Americas.
* Majorities of all Six Americas say the U.S. should increase its use of renewable energy.
* In five of the six segments, larger proportions prefer to reduce, rather than increase fossil fuel use; only the Dismissive prefer to increase the nation’s use of fossil fuels.
Conduct a study on converting the US to renewable energy by 2030 without fossil fuel or nuclear power. Dr. Jacobson at Stanford University and Dr. Delucchi at the University of California at Davis, in their Nov. 2009 Scientific American article http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=a-path-to-sustainable-energy-by-2030 and in their March 2011 articles in Energy Policy journal http://www.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jacobson/Articles/I/JDEnPolicyPt1.pdf & http://www.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jacobson/Articles/I/DJEnPolicyPt2.pdf have outline a plan for the world to convert to renewable energy without fossil fuel or the use of nuclear power, using existing technology. Germany has adopted a similar plan and will obtain 80% of their energy from renewable sources and shut down all of their nuclear power plants by 2022. The German government, the Chancellor and the Bundestag (parliament) from Conservative to Green, left to right are united behind this plan. Why can't we do that in the United States? How did the politicians in Germany overcome the lobbying and campaign money from the energy and the electric utilities? I visited Germany last summer and the German people are not “starving or freezing in the dark.” Their economy is booming and the amount of energy use is declining. If the Germans can do it, we can do it. Nuclear power and the further use of fossil fuel is too dangerous, too expensive and totally unnecessary for our energy needs.
New York State just completed a study similar to the one I am suggesting for the rest of the United States: http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2013/03/converting-new-york-state-entirely-to-renewable-energy-what-would-it-look-like#readercomments
Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute has conducted similar research studies and has reached a similar conclusion.

We have 8 days, up until March 22, 2013, to gather 100,000 signatures.
Please pass this on to make it go viral on the Web. After all President Obama said in his State of the Union Speech that we must take action to stop global warming. Well here is our chance to hold his feet to the fire and really do something to make him and the Congress act and not be beholden to the fossil fuel, nuclear energy and centralized electric power utilities.
