Dean's New PAC Raises $1.275 Million in One Quarter

Released: Jul 19, 2004 12:39 PM

SUCCESS WITH SMALL DOLLAR DONORS AND INTERNET FUNDRAISING CONTINUES

BURLINGTON, VT—This past quarter (April 1 – June 30, 2004), Gov. Howard Dean and his new political action committee, Democracy for America (DFA) raised $1,275,264 from nearly 14,000 supporters. Approximately half (45%) of these contributions were raised online and the average donation was $90.

Dean and DFA have endorsed 75 federal and non-federal candidates and distributed a total of $218,935 to their campaigns.

DFA, in conjunction with 21st Century Democrats, also provided training sessions for nearly 300 grassroots leaders and will provide additional trainings in the next few months. Attendees of these trainings were taught every aspect of campaigning—from developing a campaign plan to formulating an effective message, as well as developing effective campaign tools to reach out to different constituency groups.

Dean has also traveled to actively campaign on behalf of 17 different candidates.

Dean and DFA helped raise over $1 million for the following candidates running for federal office: John Kerry for President, Patrick Leahy for U.S. Senate, Jim Hoeffel for U.S. Senate, Nancy Farmer for U.S. Senate, Jeff Smith for U.S. House, Linda Farrell for U.S. House, Sam Barend for U.S. House, Jesse Jackson, Jr. for U.S. House and Jim Stork for U.S. House

Dean is currently the founder and honorary chair of Democracy for America (www.democracyforamerica.com), a political action committee dedicated to supporting fiscally conservative, socially progressive candidates at all levels of government – from school board to the presidency. Every two weeks, Dean and Democracy for America endorse twelve candidates—The Dean Dozen—to help recruit volunteers and raise money for races all over the country.
