Democracy for America Endorses Tony Castro for District Attorney of Westchester County
BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) endorsed Tony Castro for District Attorney of Westchester County, New York -- making him the newest member of the DFA-List, Candidates for America.
"Castro's commitment to the community and reputation for being tough and fair makes him the ideal candidate for District Attorney of Westchester County," said Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America. "I am confident that his proven leadership and regard for the highest of ethical standards will make all residents of Westchester proud."
Castro is no stranger to hard work and determination. At the age of nine, he immigrated to the United States from Portugal settling with his family in New Bedford, MA. He became the first in his family to go to college when he won a scholarship to Harvard University. After graduating from law school, Tony took a job working for the Bronx District Attorney where he worked his way up the ranks to become Deputy Chief in charge of Homicides and the Grand Jury Evaluation Bureau.
Now, Castro is running to fill the seat left open by Jeanine Pirro. Castro is committed to restoring integrity to the Westchester District Attorney's office, as well as redirecting resources, eliminating the current duplication of services, and restoring cooperation with all levels of law enforcement. Democracy for America Endorses David A. Stevenson
Candidate for Bethel Board of Education
BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) endorsed David A. Stevenson for the Bethel Board of Education -- making him the newest member of the DFA-List, Candidates for America.
"Stevenson's platform of fiscal responsibility and community involvement is just what the Bethel school district needs to improve the education system," said Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America. David first got involved in politics through Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign where he volunteered in the streets of Connecticut and the freezing snow of New Hampshire. After the campaign ended, David continued his activism by volunteering for a vacancy on the Bethel Board of Education.
This year, he was appointed to fill the vacancy and is now running for a full-term. David is committed to fighting for fiscal responsibility and making sure all students and teachers have the resources they need to succeed. He will also work to increase parental involvement through collaborative projects in the community. The election is November 8, 2005.

Jim Dean's Response to the Indictment of Rep. Tom DeLay
BURLINGTON, VT -- Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America (DFA), issued the following statement in response to the indictment of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay today:
"Sadly, the indictment of Tom DeLay didn't come as a surprise. This is an accountability moment. The Republicans' culture of corruption has become the norm in Washington and has violated the trust of the public and is eroding the moral integrity of our nation. We expect a full and vigorous investigation for the sake of the American people and the integrity of our democracy."
Democracy for America Announces First Congressional Endorsement of 2006
John Courage for United States Congress
BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) announced their first congressional endorsement of 2006 -- John Courage for the 21st District of Texas -- making him the newest member of the DFA-List, Candidates for America.

Over the past two weeks, Democracy for America has been hosting the "DFA Grassroots All-Star" competition to determine the first DFA-List endorsement of 2006. The competition consisted of two rounds of voting. The endorsement was open to all candidates running for challenger and open seat races for Congress next year. Tens of thousands of DFA members throughout the country voted for their favorite candidate, narrowing the field from sixty down to one -- and they chose John Courage as the DFA Grassroots All-Star.

Candidate for City Council of Everett, Washington

Minchew believes that government should be more open and accessible. He will promote city job growth by encouraging local business investment and sound resource management. Democracy for America Launches New Grassroots Organizing Software
BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) launched its new grassroots organizing software, "DFA-Link." BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, (R-IL) Dennis Hastert told the Daily Herald, that rebuilding New Orleans "doesn't make sense."

"We've had enough with the leadership who voted to cut funding for flood control and prevention in New Orleans making these types of comments, especially at this crucial time.
"We will be here to help the people of New Orleans, no matter how long it takes and we hope that the Speaker of the United States House will be too."
