BURLINGTON, VT — Democracy for America, the people powered PAC, endorsed Steve Behar in the New York City Council District 19 race. He is the only DFA-endorsed candidate in this race.

Behar is the founder of DFA local member group Democracy for New York City, and has served as the president of Democrats for New Politics since 2004. He also worked on Gov. Howard Dean’s presidential campaign in New Hampshire and New York in 2004.

“Steve has campaigned for over 20 progressive candidates and has dedicated himself to electing good progressive candidates and reforming the Democratic Party," said Jim Dean, chair of DFA.

He worked to beat Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut primary in 2006 and supported the election of Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland in 2008.

"On the New York City Council, Steve Behar will work with fellow reform-minded leaders to affect real, lasting change and ensure good government," said Dean. "As a longtime Bayside resident, he understands that the 19th district needs a representative who will fight for the community and against special interest groups. That's why we're endorsing his campaign."
