Democracy for America Endorses Joe Sestak for Senate in Pennsylvania

Released: May 12, 2010 11:12 AM

BURLINGTON, VT – Democracy for America, the people powered PAC, announced its endorsement of Joe Sestak for Senate today.

DFA members in Pennsylvania support Sestak by a margin of 3-to-1 in the organization’s Primaries Matter online poll.
“We’re supporting Joe Sestak because he is a progressive Democrat. Arlen Specter, on the other hand, switched parties a few months ago in an attempt to keep his seat,” said Jim Dean, Chair of DFA. “That’s why we launched ‘Primaries Matter,’ because it’s not just about electing anyone with the word Democrat next to his name, it’s about electing better Democrats.”

Just released polling shows Joe Sestak is within 4 percent of pulling ahead of Arlen Specter in the Democratic primary a huge jump from only one month ago when Quinnipiac polling showed Sestak down by 21 percent. Democracy for America is supporting Sestak to build on this momentum, bringing in donations from progressives and providing volunteers to participate in door-to-door, grassroots outreach.
DFA has helped elect nearly 600 progressives up and down the ballot including, most recently, Elaine Marshall, who came in first in the Democratic Primary for Senate in North Carolina on Tuesday May 4.
