Gov. Howard Dean's Democracy for America and Progressive Majority Join Forces

GROUPS ENDORSE STATE LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES IN THREE BATTLEGROUND STATES

BURLINGTON, VT.—Today, two influential progressive political organizations have joined forces. Democracy for America (DFA) and Progressive Majority have partnered to support progressive candidates running for state legislature in three key battleground states: Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin.

DFA will officially endorse 94 candidates that Progressive Majority has identified, targeted, trained, and supported this election cycle. These candidates will be publicized to the politically active supporters of DFA that want to volunteer and financially support progressive candidates in their communities. Through the Progressive Majority Candidate Recruitment and Development Program, these candidates will also receive all the tools necessary to run a successful campaign, including: funding, one-on-one consultation to create campaign and fundraising plans, media training, assistance with message development, stump speeches and debate preparation. Both organizations will also continue to recruit additional progressive candidates over the long term.

"Helping these candidates is just the beginning of change in this country," said Dean. "Democracy for America and Progressive Majority are starting at the grassroots level to elect leaders who will impact our communities and fill the political pipeline for years to come."

"Building a true progressive majority tomorrow requires a serious, long-term and strategic investment in candidate recruitment and development at the state and local level today," said Totten. "We are making that investment by actively recruiting progressives and giving them the training, tools, resources and support they need to win."

Democracy for America is a political action committee dedicated to building a grassroots network to support socially progressive and fiscally responsible candidates at all levels of government.
Progressive Majority is a national political organization dedicated solely to electing progressive champions at the federal and state levels. Progressive Majority accomplishes this by identifying and recruiting progressives to run for office, uniting and activating a national grassroots network of small donors to provide financial support in targeted races, and providing campaign, message and technical support to progressive campaigns.
