Democracy for America Announces the Monroe County DFA-List

Candidates for Monroe County Legislature

BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) endorsed three candidates running for Monroe County Legislature in New York -- making them the newest member of the DFA-List, Candidates for America.

"These candidates are fighting to bring progressive values and fiscal responsibility back to the people of Monroe County," said Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America. "They encompass the true spirit of grassroots democracy and are dedicated to improving the lives of all their constituents."

The DFA-List Candidates are:

Ted Nixon for Monroe County Legislature. Ted understands the importance of fiscal responsibility. He plans to build a robust economy that offers greater opportunities and enhances the overall quality of life for Monroe County citizens. Nixon believes the County Legislature has become a "good old boys club" run for the benefit of the Republican majority which has led to a fiscal crisis in the county. The election is November 8, 2005.

Ted O'Brien for Monroe County Legislature. O'Brien understands the importance of transparency and accountability, which is why he is dedicated to ensuring that the government is honest and open about how money is spent. He will maintain an open dialogue with his constituents. The primary election is September 13, 2005.

Mary Ellen Blanchard for Monroe County Legislature. Blanchard is running to bring a progressive voice to the Monroe County Legislature. She will stand up for the interests of her constituents and against the special interests of the Republican majority. She is a strong advocate for the eradication of lead paint poisoning and is fighting against the privatization of the Monroe County Hospital to protect the health and well-being of the area's citizens. The primary election is September 13, 2005.
