Democracy for America Announces the Columbus DFA-List

Candidates for City Council of Columbus, Ohio

BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Democracy for America (DFA) endorsed three candidates running for city council in Columbus, Ohio -- making them the newest members of the DFA-List, Candidates for America.

"These candidates will bring responsible and honest government back to the citizens of Ohio," said Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America. "They are working to improve their community by promoting economic growth, a safe environment, and citizen involvement. They are the future leaders our country needs to succeed."

The DFA-List Candidates are:

Mary Jo Hudson for City Council of Columbus, Ohio. Mary Jo received unanimous support from the mayor and city council of Columbus when she filled an empty seat in September 2004. This appointment not only brought her progressive voice to the city council, but also made her the first openly gay public official in Columbus. Mary Jo is committed to working to secure good-paying jobs, create high-tech growth, and maintain neighborhood safety. The election is November 8, 2005.

Kevin Boyce for City Council of Columbus, Ohio. Boyce was appointed to the Columbus City Council in September of 2000. He is committed to providing opportunities for young people to succeed and to strengthening the city's economy. He will continue working with community groups in a neighborhood-based approach to fight crime and combat fire fatalities. The election is November 8, 2005.

Maryellen O'Shaughnessy for City Council of Columbus, Ohio. O'Shaughnessy has worked hard for the people of Columbus since 1997 when she was first elected to the city council. Her vision includes safe, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, vibrant city living, and the promotion of responsible, sustainable growth and development. The election is November 8, 2005.
