I was slowed down a bit for the last week plus by some sort of virus, but I wanted to report some real progress at the state level.  There are now two different resolutions (one in the House and one in the Senate) that are against the "surge" of troops and, in the case of the earlier House resolution, call for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

Monday, August 14 is the 71st anniversary of Social Security, the government guaranteed social insurance program that is the most successful anti-poverty program this country has ever produced. While most of us took solace in the inability of the Bush Administration to get Social Security private account legislation through congress last year - the Bush Administration hasn't given up.

In a June 27, 2006 speech to the conservative Manhattan Institute, President Bush said,

"As you might recall, I [focused on Social Security reform last year]. I'm not through talking about the issue. I spent some time today in the Oval Office with the United States senators, and they're not through talking about the issue either.... If we can't get it done this year, I'm going to try next year. And if we can't get it done next year, I'm going to try the year after that...."

Time: From about 2 PM - 7 PM (dinner provided)
Cost: $25 minimum donation to Citizens to Elect Rob Bisceglie with movie/BBQ dinner/conference call included in the cost (you will need to provide your own transportation).

DuPage - Inconvenient Truth Movie and Gore Conference Call This Sunday

I know this is short notice, but I was able to get a home in Warrenville for the Moveon.org Al Gore conference call Sunday, June 11 - and "An Inconvenient Truth" is playing at the nearby Cantera Theatre in Winfield. I'm still working out the logistics, but we'll probably go to the theatre for the 2:20 PM showing (or possibly the 3:15 PM showing - the movie runs 1 hour, 40 minutes), then go to the house for a simple dinner and then the conference call. I'm probably going to try to make it a low dollar fundraiser (like $25 including movie ticket and the dinner after) - but again that's in the works.

Please let me know if you can attend and also please let me know if anyone else you know might be interested.
