For a very interesting (at least to me) alternative frame,  you might want to check out Bob Cesca's perspective, featured on HuffPo today...  (Apparently Bob Cesca is local, and Lee has suggested he speak at one of our film screenings...could be a really interesting discussion...)  Take a look at how many comments -- he seems to strike a nerve.

It's Not About The Firearms (416 comments )

A firearm in the hands of the wrong person can be deadly. The presidency in the hands of the wrong person can also be deadly. Air travel safety regulations have convinced some of us that a finger-nail clipper in the hands of the wrong person can precipitate a terrorist attack. From these examples, it doesn't make sense to ban either the presidency or manicure devices.  <snip>

He makes some good points. Especially about universal physical AND mental health care. It also makes sense to have good background checks for potential gun buyers against criminal and mental hospitalization as a partial solution.

[P.S.  If Bush starts using Blackwater, we might be grateful for the second Amendment. Although trying to resist a heavily armed government militarily seems more like suicide than resistance. Political resistance is a terrain where we would have a stronger advantage than in armed resistance. for a lot of reasons...]

[P.P.S.  I guess I'll post this at Montco DFA's linkup site, too!]
