Dear Friend,
I am writing you today to introduce myself and my candidacy for US Congress. I am a first time candidate with a reputation for being hard working, committed and progressive. I am dedicated to social and economic justice and spent many years in organized labor fighting for the rights of hard working Americans. I have the courage to speak out against the culture of corruption that the Bush Administration has set loose on Washington. We can no longer tolerate leaders and elected officials who lie to the public and willfully mislead our men and women in the armed forces.
I'm running as the Democratic candidate in the 4th Congressional District of NJ which stretches from the Delaware River across four counties to the Atlantic Ocean. For more than 20 years this district has been represented by a far right Republican who has the reputation of being the "most anti-choice" member of the US Congress.
My campaign is about working families. I believe in a single payer healthcare plan for every American, a Medicare prescription plan that is affordable, protecting Social Security, restoring our civil liberties, providing quality education for every child, stopping the outsourcing of American jobs overseas, defending a woman's right to choose, and equal rights under the law for every American regardless of sexual orientation.
We need a fresh perspective and we need a change in direction now. With your help, we can build a safer, more prosperous and peaceful world. A victory for the Democrats in November will also mean that Nancy Pelosi will be Speaker of the House instead of Dennis Hastert. Now that's a goal worth fighting for.
I know you share my progressive vision for America. You want to bring the troops home now, and you want a peace economy, not an expansion of the military industrial prison complex. You want to repeal Bush's tax cuts for the privileged few and redirect those tax dollars to benefit all of us. You want to put an end to out of control deficit spending and hold government accountable. You want to achieve energy independence, defend a woman's right to choose, and ensure equality for all. We know these goals are achievable, and that's why our movement for social change continues to grow.
I need your help. Make an investment in social change by helping me change Congress. Let's take congress away from Bush. Please send a personal donation to Carol Gay for Congress at the address in the letterhead or donate online at www.carolgayforcongress.com. I need your help. My opponent takes thousands of dollars from big pharmaceutical companies, and votes to allow big oil to price gouge the public. It is the contributions from people like you who can make the difference between a new world vision for America or more of the same with the Bush Republicans. Please send your $50, $100, $500, or $1000 contribution today. It's our country, and its time we took it back!
Congress won't change until we change Congress.
For Peace, Justice and Equality,
Carol
