PLEASE HELP ON ELECTION DAY!
PLEASE HELP ON ELECTION DAY!
Yesterday I talked to Caleb Faux, Executive Director of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, about what we can do on Election Day.
What I found is that Caleb needs help with leafleting at the polls on Election Day and I offered to help make that happen. I am hoping that you will also be able to help.
Some background (as I understand it):
- The best way to make sure that down ticket candidates get votes is to distribute party candidate lists to voters (this is especially important for judicial races)
- The best way to make sure that voters have those lists with them when they go into the voting booth is to hand them the list as they are walking into their polling location
- The Obama campaign does not plan to place volunteers at the polls
- The Driehaus campaign does plan to hire some poll workers for election day, but they will not be able to hire enough people to work at every polling location in District 1 and they will not cover any part of District 2
- Volunteers are needed to cover the rest of Hamilton County (places like Blue Ash, Anderson, Hyde Park, etc.)
So, we need your help – and the help of anyone you can recruit for this volunteer opportunity. We need people who can work at least one of 3 shifts on Election Day (more would be better – I will be working all day and hope that some of you will be able to do the same).
This is a fairly simple job, but a very important one. All you do is offer voters the Democratic Candidate List and remind them to vote for those candidates after they vote for Barack Obama (of course).
One other thing that volunteers will be asked to do is to bring an oversized windbreaker, or something of that sort, to offer to voters who wear candidate t-shirts to their polling location. Caleb tells me that the ‘no candidate paraphernalia’ rule will be strictly enforced and we don’t want anyone to be prevented from voting, so we want to be able to offer folks a cover-up if necessary.
If you are not already committed for Election Day and can be available at least some of that day, please let me know ASAP.
I will be meeting with Caleb early next week and will have more information after that, which I will share as quickly as possible. In the meantime, please try to arrange your schedule so that you can help and please pass this email on to anyone and everyone you know!
Thank you so much for everything you do!
