SF for Democracy DFA-Link, Wed Nov 1, 7-9pm:

Written by: Tim Hsu on Oct 18, 2006 12:54 AM EDT

Linked to groups: San Francisco for Democracy

Dear Member,

A November special event: At this month's DFA-Link, we'll be showing Iraq for Sale, the new movie from Robert Greenwald, the filmmaker who brought you Outfoxed and WalMart: The High Cost of Low Price. Iraq for Sale takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows, and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. The film uncovers the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who let it happen.

Come remind yourself why it's so vitally important not just to vote on November 7, but also to get out there and volunteer for your favorite progressive candidates. Plus: Special guests, including the California Democratic Party, will let you know where you can volunteer to make a difference after the movie gets you fired up and ready for action!

What: DFA-Link Meeting: See "Iraq for Sale" by Robert Greenwald
When: Wednesday, November 1, 2006, 7:00 PM
Where: Schroeder's
240 Front St.
San Francisco CA 94110

Dear Member,

Sorry about the repeated notices, but we have a last-minute addition to our panel discussion that we just had to share....

How can we best end the war in Iraq? An in-depth panel discussion featuring:

* Zaid Albanna (member, Board of Directors, Education for Peace in Iraq Center) (new!)
* Prof. John Arquilla (counterterror expert & SF Chronicle columnist)
* Dan Bernal (District Director for Rep. Nancy Pelosi)
* Miguel Bustos (Deputy District Director for Rep. Barbara Lee)

We'll discuss:

1. What are the costs, human and otherwise, of the war?
2. What is the best way for the U.S. to end the war?
3. How can we, as individuals or a group, make that happen?

Please come for an impassioned but reasoned and practical discussion of how we can finally bring this war to an end. We hope that everyone will leave with new energy and something concrete to do to end the war.

Linked to groups: San Francisco for Democracy

December focus: Spirituality, Values, and Politics.

Are you a spiritual progressive who's looking to take your faith back as well as your country back?

Are you a secular progressive who's proud of your values and tired of having them insulted by the religious right?

Come join us on December 7 and see if we can find common ground on the role of spirituality and values in politics. Special guest: Peter Gabel, Professor of Law and Director of the Institute for Spirituality and Politics at New College, and Associate Editor of Tikkun magazine. (Prof. Gabel is perhaps best known for developing, along with Rabbi Michael Lerner, "The Politics of Meaning", a philosophy integrating progressive values and politics.)

Also: Put your money where your values are and bring non-perishable food items for the SF Food Bank. Please bring: canned vegetables, fruit, and meat; soups, stews, and chili; peanut butter; cereal, pasta, rice, or beans. Please don't bring glass containers or self-bagged food.

When: Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 7:00 PM

Where:
Schroeder's
