Because of my commitment to some local campaigns, I haven't been able to spend enough time on a meeting for this month. BUT ... PLEASE plan on attending the showing of IRAQ for SALE: The War Profiteers on SaturtdayOctober 21st at 1:15 pm.

Please go to the following URL and RSVP for the showing.

iraqforsale.bravenewtheaters.com...

The screening is being sponsored by "Democracy for America Tri-Cities" and the "Friends of South Asia". Come on down for a good movie and some lively discussion afterwards.

We'd certainly like to hear from any members of the military that servered their county during these difficult times. Their comments would be most welcomed.

If you're NOT registered in Washington or Oregon by August 20th. Really this Saturday, August 19th since there's no mail pickup on Sunday. You won't be able to vote in the Sept 19th Primary if your NOT registered voter.

If this doesn't apply to you, let your friends and acquaintances know. THANKS!

Please read the attached info in Initiative 933!

I forgot to add this to our Agenda Yesterday! Sorry!

The Audibon Society of the Tri-Cities is taking a local lead role in defeating Initiative 933. Initiative 933 is a costly scheme that would force communities to either unfairly waive important neighborhood safeguards, or pay special interests hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to comply with the law. It's simple: if I-933 passes, special interests win, and taxpayers lose.

I-933 costs too much
I-933's payoffs for irresponsible development will cost millions of already over-stretched taxpayer dollars - money that could be used for funding for public services like schools, roads and public safety.

I-933 creates special interest loopholes
I-933 makes communities choose: either pay special interests to comply with the fundamental laws that protect our quality of life, or give those special interest waivers so they don't have to play by the same rules the rest of us do.

I-933 harms quality of life
I-933 will result in the kind of sprawling, irresponsible developments that increase traffic congestion and overwhelm local education, public safety and other services we all depend upon.

What can you do to help the No on I-933 campaign today? Please click on the link below and take a minute to pledge to vote NO on 933. We need to show the breadth and depth of the support on our side now to ensure that we defeat this initiative in November.

Visit noon933.org/get_involved/pledge.... to pledge to vote NO. Simply enter your name and contact information and click the box to pledge. You can also sign up to volunteer on the campaign, write a letter to the editor, or help in any way you can.

MORE BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In 2004 Oregon voters passed Measure 37, a sweeping "takings" initiative that would undermine Oregon's successful land use system. Since the Measure passed, approximately 3,000 claims have been filed.

In January of 2005 special interests like the Building Industry Association of Washington, Tim Eyman, and the Washington State Farm Bureau met with Oregonians in Action (the prime sponsor of Measure 37) to talk about how to emulate Measure 37 in Washington. Conservation and other public interest organizations immediately began organizing to defeat a clone of Measure 37 in Washington.

On July 6th, 2006, the Farm Bureau turned in signatures for Initiative 933. I-933 will cost taxpayers and local governments millions of dollars, will create loopholes for irresponsible developers to exploit, and take away a neighbors' right to protect their property.

Papers across the state have already editorialized against the initiative including the Tacoma News Tribune, the Seattle Post Intelligencer and the Walla Walla Union Bulletin. To read recent news coverage go to www.noon933.org.

Now we need your help to ensure that we defeat Initiative 933! What can you do to help the No on I-933 campaign today?

Visit noon933.org/get_involved/pledge.... to pledge to vote NO, send a letter to your local paper, volunteer, or just learn more about how this initiative would impact your community.

Those DFAers that turned out for the Picketing of Hastings' office this morning, a BIG thankyou! We had a find showing and a lot of new faces! There was a couple there from King County no less!

The intersection of 20th Ave and Sun Willows Blvd is a great place for a visibility event!

"Point Of Reason" talk show E-mail response...

Written by: Bob Parazin on Apr 20, 2006 2:52 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Democracy for America Tri-Cities

This is an e-mail from the hosts of the new local talk show. It'll give you more background on the two. Don't look for too much liberal thinking, but a lot DOES depend on the callers. Our Sandy ... was caller #2 last week. NICE GOING!

They're on at 10 a.m. Saturdays on KONA Radio 610 on the dial.

------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for listening!

To address some of your questions:

As for backgrounds of the show hosts - Mr. Rio is
indeed an attorney and former deputy prosecutor from
Spokane County. Mr. Berkman is a local business
consultant and semi-retired corporate executive from
Silicon Valley. Both now reside in the Tri-City area.

The program is new, locally produced and aired.
Though KONA radio is not responsible for its content,
they have do have the courage, if you will, to
broadcast it.

There is no "history" to the show in that we believe
it the first of its kind in the region. Like many
things, it was conceived over a dinner conversation.
And again, kudos to KONA for having the courage to
broadcast an untested program as well as sell
sponsorship to it.

Thank you again for listening. We encourage your
input and feedback.

Sincerely,
The Point of Reason

New LOCAL Issue Oriented 'Talk Show' on KONA

Written by: Bob Parazin on Apr 13, 2006 1:12 AM EDT

Linked to groups: Democracy for America Tri-Cities

Saturday, April 15 at 10 a.m. KONA Radio, 610 AM on the dial will introduce a new 1 hr local talk show. It has two hosts who say they want to focus in depth, on local issues.

I'm a bit suspicious that it's going to be right-leaning and Republican dominated, similar to the weekly paper that Dave Cortinas of "La Vos" fame started to 'balance' the leftist Tri-City Herald.

Dave's paper the Tri-City Republic has lost it's right-leaning, fundamentalist editor Ken Harvey, who I'm told wants to start his OWN right-leaning, fundamentalist weekly. Apparently Dave wasn't conservative enough for Ken and they've parted ways. The advertising was pretty thin as well.

So PLEASE tune in this Saturday, 10 a.m. KONA Radio 610 AM "¦ and make YOUR voices heard if you don't agree with what's being said.

I might add that when local talk has been tried in the past it hasn't fared too well. Maybe this time it'll be different "¦ I just hope that it doesn't immediately make a right turn. Listen for the advertisers as well.
