Change you can believe in !!!

On May 10, 2006, I made history. I challenged the powers that be in our 3rd Congressional District in Virginia and became a delegate for Obama to the National Convention.
I went up against elected state officials. State officials that we work to get elected. Once our work is done, we are patted on the head and told to sit down and shut up. They are going to the party and you, and me, well we can stay home.
Well that didn't happen on May 10. I had gotten emails that there was a "slate" of people that were endorsed by Barack Obama. That Barack Obama who was still on the primary campaign trail. See, we were told that he had taken time off from his busy campaign and picked five people in the state of Virginia that were more worthy than you and me.
They had taken a letter that was a stock letter thanking people for running as a delegate. And at the top of the letter they had inserted five names of the "chosen".
Luckily for me I had run a caucus for Obama at our city committee and had read the 47 pages of rules. I knew that they could not push a slate over the ballot. But there they were trying to push the slate over the ballot.
I stood up and challenged them. My husband got up and told them if this letter was not offiicial they would all be held accountable. He got in Bobby Scott's face and told him to find out where the letter came from. Bobby said he couldn't do that. My husband, Wayne, would not back down. He asked , is Obama here today. One guy actually said "NO". Wayne said if he was here today he would be shocked at what you guys were pulling. Many of the delegates at the convention were outraged at what they were seeing. They asked if this was democratic. I said no, it's not.
They shut up and let the us get up and give our speeches. I had made flyers and held one up and told the convention to read what I had done. I told them I had help elect some of these same people to office and now you tell us to sit down. I told them I would not allow this to happen. I told them I had gone to work for Obama in Elizabeth City, N.C., had they??
I got a standing ovation. When we finally put out the ballot I stood up and said "I am still here!".
I was elected to be a delegate for Barack Obama to the Democratic National Convention.
I didn't back down thanks to the inspiration of a guy named Howard Dean. I want my country back and I want our elected officials to honor the grassroots efforts of those of us who work so hard to get them elected.
A HOWARDLY was awarded for her action.
meanwhile progressives had a setback today and need to take a lesson from linda and fight back harder
- Last thread you said he voted for it. Now you say he didn't show up.

By linda b on Jul 9, 2008 9:24 PM EDTI think he was making a fool of himself in Pa. Telling a joke about all the tobacco sent to Iran (in violation of the law). Said that is the way to kill them.
Real funny stuff there John.

Only one Senator missed the Medicare Vote
by fbihop
Wed Jul 09, 2008 at 02:44:16 PM PDT
There were 99 Senators on the floor of the Senate to cast their ballots for the Medicare vote. Barack Obama was there.
And even Ted Kennedy was there. Kennedy was not scheduled back until September. Kennedy had brain surgery not too long ago. Yet he was able to suck it up and get his ass on the floor to cast an important vote for cloture.
Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts walked triumphantly into the Senate on Wednesday for the first time since learning that he had brain cancer, hoping to provide Democrats with the crucial, single vote that they need to reverse a cut in Medicare reimbursements to doctors.
...
Holding both hands open, like a preacher receiving a blessing, Mr. Kennedy, 76, shouted a loud "Aye!" He then quickly flashed two-thumbs up, before turning to receive more hugs and kisses.

Who would miss not only this important vote, but also the FISA votes today?
Well, John <del>W</del> S McCain.
McCain was probably too busy off campaigning in some state that Bush won last election to even show up for these votes. McCain has better things to do than, you know, his job. His opponent, Barack Obama, and 98 of his colleagues showed up, though.
The 69 Senators who voted for the bill showed up.
On a thread entitled "Change you can believe in"
My list of the Senators who voted against the FISA cave-in was relegated to the Water Closet, while all of the pro-Obama posts were left.
Very Interesting...............
OK, someone please fill me in.
did BO miss the FISA vote? He's not on the list. Did Clinton vote nay?
We're so godda7777 disjointed with the new blog dictatorship.
I'vE Also noted a definite pro-BO spin coming from HQ.
BO lost the election today..,the youth will stay home when they finally hear about it. He was supposed to be the anti-war guy, right? nOT the anti-Constitution guy. And he's stranded his base, which, if it's smart, will stop sending him money, which he really doesn't need anyway. The corporations have had his back all along.
BROKERED CONVENTION
I really enjoyed your post. You and a few others are the only ones keeping me here. I feel bad that Sandy M decided to leave. But for a few toxic people, we lose so many good ones.
I look forward to next month when we can meet and have some decent conversations to work out the nation's problems, not run and hide from them, or throw arrows at the people who only want the same thing.
Just because we don't denounce and figuratively spit on Obama doesn't mean we agree with him all the time. Black and white thinking is for people who can't think for themselves beyond their own fear and paranoia. And in once case, perhaps dementia.
...but this Deaniac feels betrayed. The first thing Barack did after winnining the nomination was to sell out to corporate interests.
Last month, I supported Obama because I wanted to. Now I support him because I have to. That's no way for the Left to feel at this point. There was no public constituency for this capitulation.
I'll vote for Obama. But I no longer trust him. He's a Blue Dog now as far as I'm concerned.
If he can do this flip on FISA, he can just as easily do it on the war.
If there were, we'd all have them.
Life is not that simplistic. It's messy. And if folks don't get politicians by now, and that the only way to effect change is to be the change, then Howard's message of earning an A didn't get through enough. My hat is off to people like Tea Time Tim, David Stevenson, Indy Steve (miss his voice here) lindab, Phil and all of the others that either run for office or put in the time to actually try to be the change.
One day at a time. Spiritual people don't look toward others to keep their own house in order. Because no one can possibly do it all for another person.
- How could I leave out Jessica and Susan Rowe, too?
By Denise in San Mateo County on Jul 10, 2008 12:20 AM EDTBad move by Obama, but can't criticize here.
It seems that it is OK to not so subtly suggest that others here think black and white, are paranoid, or demented. I think that kind of accusatory language is what keeps people from recommending the Blog to others.
I hope we can still discuss the Article of Impeachment on the floor of the house today on a thread. It' s
important.
