NOT here. NOT now. California Coast NOT for Sale!

On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 13, Vice President Dick Cheney will be headlining a high dollar fundraiser in Orange County for Rep. Ken Calvert, congressman of California's 44th congressional district.  Vice President Cheney and Congressman Calvert will be raising Big Bucks from their drill happy Big Oil buddies to help reelect Calvert so he can continue to promote their plans to open more drilling off the California coast.  

Which can only mean one thing:  Our Democratic challenger, Bill Hedrick, has caught their attention and they're cranking up the GOP money machine.  Because, like most of us, Bill Hedrick knows drilling off the California won't make the price of gasoline go down, won't make a dent in our dependence on overseas oil, and won't reduce our carbon output.  Bill Hedrick knows the GOP mantra "Drill here, drill now" is just another election year ruse, and has been willing to speak out and say so.  And if there is one thing Dick Cheney can't stand, it's a Democrat with the guts to stand up and speak truth to power.

Congressman Calvert has Vice President Cheney to raise money for him.  They'll schmooze their high rolling donors over highballs while overlooking the beautiful California coastline they want to exploit.  Bill Hedrick, on the other hand, doesn't get any money from high rolling executives.  He gets his money from people like you and me.  Average, everyday people who know it will take more than trite election year mantras to create a sustainable energy policy.  Common sense people who know offshore drilling isn't worth the risk of defiling the California coastline.  Not here.  Not now.  Not ever.

While Dick Cheney is in town, let's counter with a fundraiser of our own for Bill Hedrick.  Over the next 24 hours, let's get out our wallets and show how the power of average everyday people giving small donations of $5, $10 or $20 can add up.  While Orange County's power couples are paying $4,400 for snapshots taken with the Vice President, let's each give Bill Hedrick $44 to win the 44th and ask nothing in return - except honesty, integrity, and the guts to take the For Sale sign down off the California coast.
