Fair & Balanced Media? - SfD Presents: The Fifth Estate: Sticks & Stones

Are you disgusted at the lack of media coverage of the real issues that affect our society?  Are you tired of "gotcha questions" in the presidential debates?  If a candidate does not wear flag lapel pin, are they unpatriotic?  Who gives a rats @##?  How about asking questions about our healthcare crisis, faltering economy, environmental destruction, pre-emptive war and occupation of sovereign nations, etc...?

Join us this Wed., May 7th at the Colonial Heights Library for a lively discussion about the "Fair & Balanced Media" in our society as we watch the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation documentary, The Fifth Estate: Sticks & Stones.

WEDNESDAY MAY 7th
7:00pm – 9:00pm
Location : Colonial Heights Library
 4799 Stockton Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95820

You can RSVP here: http://dfalink.com/event.php?id=29209

CBC: The Fifth Estate

THE FIFTH ESTATE : Sticks & Stones

You can see how Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter reacted to this film (click the pic to watch the short video):
Coulter's mug

Please join us as we take a look at this documentary highlighting how ridiculous the Mainstream Media actually looks trying to appear fair and balanced. The Canadian Broadcasting Company takes an outside look at the American media, and how it has digressed to a shouting match between supposed Liberals and Conservatives, where often big money dictates who is the loudest. This 45 minute film will be followed by a spirited discussion.  Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The Mainstream Media ignored them. We won't let their stories go silent!
Please join us tomorrow evening, Wed. April 2nd, for this important event!

WHAT: Sacramento for Democracy's April Meeting
WHEN: Wednesday, April 2, 2008 7:00 - 9:00pm
WHERE: Arden-Dimmick Library
891 Watt Av (Watt & Northop Ave)
map: http://tinyurl.com/2ly68v

Were you able to watch Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan last month? Like many of us, you were not able to see this important event. As expected, the corporate, mainstream media completely ignored this testimony. Are they afraid that the American people will learn the truth about our occupation of these two countries?

Please join us on Wed. April 2nd, as we will show clips of this historic event.
You can RSVP Here:

Money for Mercenaries or Medicine?

Written by: Bill Lackemacher on Mar 6, 2008 6:11 PM EST

Linked to groups: Sacramento For Democracy

Should we spend our tax dollars on More War (& Mercenaries) or on Healthcare for ALL Americans?

As Martin Luther King Jr. observed forty years ago, "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."  While the insurance and pharmaceutical industries post huge profits, the U.S. health care crisis grows steadily worse.

You have three fantastic opportunities to join author Norman Solomon, Actress/Activist Mimi Kennedy and Congressional Candidate Dr. Bill Durston on Friday and Saturday, March 7th & 8th in the Sacramento area and to discuss these issues!

MimI, Bill & Norman

Friday, March 7th, 5:00 - 7:00 PM : Meet Norman, Mimi & Bill at Amore Cafe (2220 Gold Springs Ct, Rancho Cordova, 95670 - MAP). Norman will sign copies of his books. Seating is limited inside the cafe, so call (916) 463-0011 if you'd like to stay to eat, otherwise, just show up to meet Norman.

More info 916-622-VOTE or http://sacramentofordemocracy.org/?q=node/view/15304

Friday, March 7th, 7:00 - 9:30 PM : PDA's “Healthcare Not Warfare” tour comes to town. Clips from Norman's movie, "War Made Easy", will be shown, and Norman will discuss the movie and why Progressive Democrats of America endorses Bill for Congress. Bill will talk about redirecting the vast resources being wasted on war toward more constructive endeavors like a universal health care system. And Mimi will tell us about PDA’s inside/outside strategy for a Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles. There will be refreshments and live music courtesy of Paul and Candy Anderson and their Celtic band. The Cordova Community Center (2197 Chase Drive, Rancho Cordova 95670 - MAP)

More info 916-622-VOTE or http://dfalink.com/event.php?id=27991

Saturday, March 8th, 10:00 AM - Noon : Come meet Bill, Norman Solomon, and Mimi Kennedy in an intimate setting. House party at Jim Cook's home. (9542 Laguna Lake Way in Elk Grove). A continental breakfast will be served. To RSVP, call 916-622-VOTE.

>> SFD Feb. Meeting - Let's Discuss the Primary Results (Will All The Votes Be Counted By Wed.?)
http://sacramentofordemocracy.org/?q=node/view/14365

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hi All:

Just a reminder to Get Out And Vote tomorrow (Tuesday)!! It doesn't matter who you are voting for, just get out and vote!

If you still have your absentee, vote-by-mail ballot, it is probably too late to mail it in, so bring it to ANY polling place in the county to which you are registered before 8:00 PM on Tuesday. In addition, you can drop it off at your county elections office, but you must also drop it off by 8 PM on Tues. You can find your elections office here: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_d.htm

Also, if you are registered as "Decline-to-State", you may request a Democratic ballot at your polling place. The Republican Party of CA will not let you vote on their ballot, so if you want to vote for a presidential candidate, you must request a Democratic ballot. If you have any questions on election day, please call the Secretary of State's Office at 1-800-345-VOTE

UNCOUNTED premiere: This Tues. Jan 15th

Written by: Bill Lackemacher on Jan 11, 2008 1:55 PM EST

Linked to groups: Sacramento For Democracy

Come on down to the Crest Theatre on Tuesday, Jan 15th and meet radio host Peter B. Collins, Brad Friedman of Bradblog.com, filmmaker David Earnhardt and other special guests for the one day showing and

West Coast Premiere of
"UNCOUNTED: The New Math of American Elections"

UPDATES: For those attending Jeanie Keltner's 70th birthday celebration, please consider attending either the 5:30 or 8:00 screening, before or after you go to Jeanie's party. Dr. Bill Durston (candidate for Congress in CD-3) will be at the 8:00 screening after the party.

A special question and answer session with Brad, Peter B, David and others will follow each screening! Here's your chance to ask the experts anything you want about our electoral process.

Did you read the cover story in last Sunday's New York Times Magazine? Can You Count on Voting Machines? This timely article points out the vulnerabilities in our voting systems which have been proven by CA's own Secretary of State Debra Bowen as well as the SoS's of Ohio, Colorado and others.

What about the possible recount of the New Hampshire Primary?  There are a lot of issues with our voting systems and they need to be publicized so that they do not get swept under the carpet.

With the CA Primary just weeks away, we need to be aware of how we can safeguard our electoral process, and therefore, our democracy!

Click here for more details of the event and link to watch a preview.

See you Tuesday!

Cheers, Bill
