November Meeting

Written by: Joseph Medley on Oct 26, 2006 6:28 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Greater Kansas City Democracy for America

On November 1, we're going to break with tradition and have a working meeting, rather than having a speaker as usual. We'll be working with Missouri Project Victory 06 to get out the vote for Claire McCaskill, work that will help progressive candidates at all levels of government.

As always, our meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at Californos 4124 Pennsylvania in Westport at 7:00 pm. Be sure to come early for "Drinking Liberally", the progressive social event before the big meeting. Drinking Liberally starts at 5:30, upstairs in the bar.

GKCDFA continues to be dedicated to its mission of electing fiscally responsible, socially progressive candidates to all levels of office. GKCDFA started in 2003 as part of "Dean for America," the largest grassroots presidential campaign ever. As we begin our fourth year, GKCDFA is grassroots all grown up. We give citizens the opportunity to get involved in the political process and we look forward to your participation.

We look forward to seeing you November 1st!!

Down To the Wire; Claire Needs Your Help

Written by: Joseph Medley on Oct 26, 2006 6:15 PM EDT

A few words from Paul Rola.

We are coming down to the wire. It has been shown (by Republicans) that elections are won in the last couple of weeks of the campaign. We need every available body to help in canvassing or phone banking this weekend, through next week and next weekend and especially on election day.
Will you help us win this election for Claire and candidates all up and down the Democratic ticket and for ourselves!

Time is getting short. Campaign is heating up. Talent is going negative. We have to dig out every vote to make sure Claire wins in November. It was pointed out recently, 1 more vote from every precinct for Ms. Carnahan in the 2002 election and Talent would not be in congress today. Can one vote make a difference?

-in 1645 - one vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England.
-in 1649 - one vote caused Charles 1 of England to be executed.
-in 1776 - one vote gave America the English language instead of German.
-in 1845 - one vote brought Texas into the Union.
-in 1868 - one vote saved President Andrew Jackson from impeachment.
-in 1876 - one vote changed France from monarchy to a republic.
-in 1923 - one vote gave Adolph Hitler leadership of the Nazi party.

If you could turn one voter; how important is it?...think about it. We need all the help we can get. We need all of you to get to an MPV office in the next two weeks for one of the shifts below to show our support for Claire. Don't forget the "Drag a friend to Victory" program; where YOU can win fabulous prizes! (gkcdfa.org/?q=drag...)

IMPORTANT CHANGE REGARDING LOCATION OF CLAIRE'S SUPPORTERS @ DEBATE SITE

Written by: Joseph Medley on Oct 17, 2006 10:54 PM EDT

Linked to groups: Greater Kansas City Democracy for America

The updates come fast this close to an election. I just got this from Julie Rola.

Greetings, All!

Paul & I learned (only today) that it is VERY important that those of us who gather at the debate site tomorrow, Wed., 10/18, gather at 68th & Holmes (we must NOT gather @ 69th & Holmes) in order to show our support for Claire.

For the McCaskill/Talent 7p.m. debate on Wednesday, October 18th, please know that KCPT, Channel 19, will broadcast the debate at 7p.m. on Thursday, October 19th.

Claire's campaign staff hopes that Claire supporters will line the area of 68th & Holmes (east side of Holmes) at University Academy (6801 Holmes - KCMO) between the times of 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18th. We REALLY need to be there to visually SHOW our support for Claire. When you've checked your schedule & determined that you can join in the fun Wednesday evening, could you please call Paul Rolá at either (H) 816-276-2421 or (C) 816-896-6366 to help Missouri Project Victory '06 plan for the turnout? Or send an e-mail to Paul: paulrola@earthlink.net

Thank you.

With twenty-one days left until the election, and still much work to be done, we wanted to give you updates on a few things. First, THE BIG NEWS. I've been told by the folks at Missouri Project Victory that CLAIRE MCCASKILL will be making an appearance at our Oktoberfest on Wednesday evening after her debate.

GKCDFA Mondays at Missouri Project Victory
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We call phone numbers from a huge statewide database to find out where people stand politically. We get a message out for Claire McCaskill. And, just as importantly, candidates at all levels of office get better voter data that helps them prioritize their outreach.

But the folks at Project Victory still need our help.

Drag a Friend to Victory
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While voting is important, elections are won or lost with boots on the ground (or ears to the phone, as the case may be). While many of you are active and have volunteered your time, we are asking you to take the next step and get your friends, partners, kids, parents, etc. to join your efforts. For each person you drag along, it is worth 1000s of votes.

With that in mind, GKCDFA presents: DRAG A FRIEND TO VICTORY CONTEST

Project Victory Phone Banking a Success

Written by: Joseph Medley on Oct 6, 2006 12:24 AM EDT

Linked to groups: Greater Kansas City Democracy for America

I'm writing to give a big thank you to all of you who help with our phone banking at Missouri Project Victory last week. I'm forwarding the letter we recently received from the folks at Project Victory thanking us for our effort. All of you who were involved should be proud of the work you did. You should be aware that this effort helps all Missouri Democrats, not just Claire McCaskill. Democratic candidates at all levels use the collected data in their own voter outreach.

Watch your inbox over the next day for information about our plan to repeat last week's success every week between now and the election.

Now, here's the Project Victory thank you letter:

"A big congratulations and thank you to all the GKCDFA members who attended our DFA Monday phone bank night with Project Victory!

Here's what you accomplished:

1,237 Persuasion Calls
203 Contacts
84 Strong Claire McCaskill supporters
37 Voters Leaning towards Claire
51 Undecideds
12 Voters Leaning towards Talent
19 Strong Talent supporters
73 Voters Identified as Democrats
Over 1000 pieces of literature signed
And this was while calling our most challenging subset of voters--those we had previously failed to gain information from.

Again, thank you all for your help….you were able to do 2-3 days work in 4 hours!! Also, thanks to the GKCDFA Steering Committee (especially Paul and Julie), who were instrumental in setting the evening up! This is what Grassroots Leadership and Participation is all about!

However, our job is not done. As of Wednesday [September 27], we will have only 41 days until we elect a new U.S. Senator for the state of Missouri.

We will be trying to contact as many voters as possible in these last six weeks and we need all the help we can get! How can you help:
You can phone bank or do office work at one of our six K.C. area offices….
You can walk in one of our five separate canvasses on Saturdays and Sundays…
You can join our Neighborhood Leader Program and contact voters in your neighborhood!

To set up a time to come and help or to learn about our area locations, please feel free to contact Corey Dukes (cdukes@projectvictory06.org) or a member of the GKCDFA Steering Committee!

See you soon as we continue our quest to put a Senator on OUR side in Washington (and put another Republican in the unemployment line)."

HELP WANTED: Twenty People Needed on Monday, September 25

Written by: Joseph Medley on Sep 20, 2006 9:12 AM EDT

Linked to groups: Greater Kansas City Democracy for America

As some of you know, GKCDFA has spent several nights phone banking with Missouri Project Victory 2006. We call phone numbers from a huge statewide database to find out where people stand politically. We get a message out for Claire McCaskill. And, just as importantly, candidates at all levels of office get better voter data that helps them prioritize their outreach.

But the folks at Project Victory still need our help. If we can get twenty GKCDFA members to work this coming Monday, September 25, Project Victory will feed us. Members of the steering committee hit the phones last night at my house and came up with eighteen volunteers. But we still need two more.

If you can help us out next Monday, reply to this e-mail, then show up at one of the Project Victory offices listed below anytime between 5:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. You don't need to be there the whole time. Even a single hour is helpful. If you don't like making phone calls, the Project Victory folks have plenty of other things for you to do. You can stuff envelopes, stack literature, enter data, among other things.
