MoveOn.org Political Action
Linked to groups: DFA Job Board
Job Description:2006 Congressional Campaign Field Director
Location: Flexible
Duration: Starting ASAP through November 15, 2006.
Goal: Help launch and run a massive phone-based volunteer GOTV & persuasion
operation to win back key Congressional seats in 2006.
Description: Radical Republicans in Washington continue to look out only for
themselves while the country suffers and the war rages on. MoveOn.org is
working to move the country toward a "change election," a tipping point that
will turn things around in Washington in 2006 while also building our
strength for the future. We'll challenge the Republicans' corrupt politics
and encourage Democrats to stand up and present a real alternative.
Over the next 8 months, we'll user a series of national grassroots actions
to get our message out about the Republicans' failed leadership. Meanwhile,
we'll lay the groundwork for an innovative national GOTV & voter persuasion
effort.
In the final 4 months before the election, we'll use cutting-edge phone
technology to direct the full clout of our national membership towards
turning out progressive voters in key races that are likely to be so close
our efforts could determine the outcome.
We'll recruit volunteer teams from coast-to-coast to ID, persuade, and turn
out hundreds of thousands of swing-district voters. We'll use extensive
experimentation to increase our impact. Our goal is to reinvent
phone-banking in the same way the MoveOn helped re-invent grassroots
fundraising, shifting the balance of power in the 2006 elections and
creating a new way for progressives everywhere to have an impact on the
relatively few competitive races.
We're looking for an experienced organizer with great organizing,
analytical, project management and problem-solving skills to help make this
happen.
This is a fast-paced and ambitious program with a significant impact.
You'll need to be able to turn on a dime so when there's a new idea on
Monday, you can test it on Tuesday, evaluate it on Wednesday, and implement
it nationwide before the weekend.
Responsibilities: Work with the Organizing Director and Political Director
to plan, build, and help run a national phone-based GOTV & persuasion
program. We're potentially hiring for two different positions with different
levels of responsibility. Depending on experience, specific responsibilities
will include some or all of the following:
· Plan the program, from soup to nuts.
· Directly manage one or two staff members, plus contractors and
vendors.
· Manage relationship with our partner, Grassroots Campaigns, Inc.,
who will implement the organizing program.
· Work with expert(s) to design an experimentation program.
· Develop the organizing model, including recruiting and managing
tens of thousands of volunteers.
· Create written materials for the program.
· Oversee list acquisition and management.
· Work with tech team to manage development, testing, and roll-out of
appropriate tech tools.
· Oversee voter and district targeting.
· Propose and manage the program budget.
· Analyze results and feedback to help focus and improve the program.
Requirements:
You must be:
· Very smart, flexible, a keen problem solver, driven, and someone
who wants more than life itself to win back Congress in '06.
· Able to work very closely with other members of the team, but also
to manage your work independently.
· A strong writer (especially action alerts).
· Someone with strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze
and interpret campaign data.
· Willing to pitch in on nitty-gritty administrative work as well as
the glamorous stuff.
· For our more skilled, senior position, an accomplished manager.
Candidates who have overseen significant projects, directed field campaigns
or large numbers of volunteers, or managed staff, are preferred.
· An experienced organizer with at least 3 years of experience on
electoral, issue or constituency campaigns (more, for the senior position).
Experience running electoral field campaigns a very strong plus. Experience
with phone-based GOTV, even better.
· Someone who digs, or at least has a strong aptitude for,
technology. Word, Outlook and data analysis in Excel are required, Access
plus some basic HTML and SQL preferred, anything more is a bonus.
Salary: Salary range starts at $50,000 annually for the junior, less skilled
position and $75,000 for someone with more experience, particularly in
program and campaign management. Health & Dental insurance will be provided,
plus paid vacation.
To Apply: Email a resume in a Word attachment, plus three references with
phone & email, to fieldjobs@moveon.org and put 'GOTV program' in the subject
line.

of color, LGBTQ people and others are strongly encouraged to apply.

MoveOn.org Political Action
Job Description:
Deputy Director, Operation Democracy Field Network
Location: Flexible
Duration: Starting ASAP through November 15, 2006.
Goal: Build a new national network of trained local leaders who can organize
sophisticated earned media actions; fight Right-wing Republicans while
laying the groundwork for a "change election."
Description: Radical Republicans in Washington continue to look out only for
themselves while the country suffers and the war rages on. MoveOn is working
to move the country toward a "change election," a tipping point that will
turn things around in Washington in 2006 while also building our strength
for the future. We'll challenge the Republicans' corrupt politics and
encourage Democrats to stand up and present a real alternative.
The backbone of our effort is Operation Democracy, our new network of
committed, trained leaders around the country (Link).
In just the past three months, Operation Democracy volunteers have helped
organize Out of Iraq petition deliveries to 270 congressional offices, 137
news conferences with victims of Republican budget cuts, anti-war vigils
attended by 20,000 people, and numerous editorial board meetings on the
Alito nomination.
Over the next 10 months, Operation Democracy members will organize rallies,
deliver petitions, and hold a variety of earned-media events with an
emphasis on getting our message out about the Republicans' failed
leadership.
In the final months, we'll add on an innovative national GOTV effort. We'll
use cutting-edge phone technology to direct the full clout of our national
membership towards turning out progressive voters in races that are likely
to be so close our efforts could determine the outcome.
We're looking for an experienced organizer with great organizing,
analytical, and problem-solving skills to help make this happen. You'll help
build Operation Democracy and coordinate high-profile national actions until
late summer, then work on our GOTV program through the election in order to
elect progressives and win power back from radical Republicans.
This is a fast-paced and ambitious program with a significant impact.
You'll need to be able to turn on a dime so when there's a new idea on
Monday, you can test it on Tuesday, evaluate it on Wednesday, and implement
it nationwide before the weekend.
Responsibilities: Work with the Organizing Director and Political Director
to plan and run national volunteer recruitment & training, issue organizing,
voter contact, fundraising, and grassroots earned media strategies.
· Oversee mission-critical realms of responsibility as part of the
campaign. For example, we might want to hold 200 simultaneous town hall
meetings, organized by volunteers. You'll need to develop and execute a plan
to train lead volunteers in the skills required; organize a test event; work
with our on-the-ground organizers to train the volunteers and carry out Iraq
Town Hall meetings in 200 districts; and gather results and evaluate the
process.
· Coordinate key field campaigns and days of action. For example,
organize 350 news conferences delivering petitions to members of Congress
opposing more "reverse Robin Hood" tax breaks for the rich.
· Create web content and write email messages and organizing
materials for MoveOn membership, e.g. an invitation to attend a regional
training or community organizing meeting, or a guide to volunteer management
for local leaders.
· Maintain communication with field staff in swing states, including
writing materials (like sample emails for nationwide use) and supervising
their use.
· Analyze results and feedback to help focus and improve our
activities. For example, create a testing program to evaluate the best way
for members to gather petition signatures. Or, write a survey that we'll
send out to people who organized an event with us, and then analyze survey
responses to figure out the keys to a successful event.
Requirements:
You must be:
· Very smart, flexible, a keen problem solver, driven, and someone
who wants more than life itself to both develop local progressive leaders
and win Congress in '06.
· Able to work very closely with other members of the team, but also
to manage your work independently.
· A very strong writer (especially action alerts) with excellent
analytical abilities.
· Willing to pitch in on nitty-gritty administrative work as well as
the glamorous stuff.
· An experienced organizer with 3-10 years of experience on
electoral, issue or constituency campaigns. Candidates who have directed
field campaigns or large numbers of volunteers, or who have managed staff,
are preferred.
· Someone who digs, or at least has a strong aptitude for,
technology. Word, Outlook and data analysis in Excel are required, Access
plus some basic HTML and SQL preferred, anything more is a bonus.
Salary: Salary range starts at $50,000 annually, DOE. Health & Dental
insurance will be provided, plus paid vacation days.
To Apply: Email a resume in a Word attachment, plus three references with
phone & email, to fieldjobs@moveon.org and put 'Operation Democracy' in the
subject line.
