I need your help

A week ago today, I heard about the shameless new Republican terror ad, designed to make us all very afraid. I finally got off my intellectual duff and decided to learn the new version of Macromedia Flash and make a response.

I have an answer which still has a few rough edges. The main problem is the lack of a decent sound track. The Republican ad starts with a ticking (time bomb?) sound, shows scenes of terr'rists in training and quotes from Osama & Co. Very scary! It ends with a heartbeat and an explosion. I began and ended in similar fashion, but the content is decidedly different.

I would be very grateful if you could watch the ad and give me some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I know it's probably too long. Advice on what to trim would be helpful. I'd like to finish it tomorrow and put it out on Digg it and Youtube.

Since DFA Link limits the uploads to 2 Mb, (this file is almost 4 Mb) I had to start a new Yahoo Group, Progressive Obsessive, and uploaded it there. groups.yahoo.com/group/Progressi... The movie is called, "These are the stakes, really". Thanks in advance!

You'll have to join the group to see it. Membership is not limited.

"Impeachment Anyone?
The Case for Taking the Tape Off Our Mouths
By David Swanson

[This piece is based on seven new books on impeachment, all briefly discussed in a final note.]

Never before has the system of government established by the U.S. Constitution been as seriously threatened; never before has the built-in remedy for the sort of threat we face been as badly needed; never before have we had as good an opportunity to use that remedy exactly as it was intended."

It has a biblioigraphy at the end with links to the SEVEN books published calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush.

PDA "End Funding of Iraq Occupation "Petition Update
Rep. Jim McGovern is currently serving his fifth term in the House from the 3rd Congressional District of Massachusetts. He has introduced H.R. 4232, which would end funding for the use of ground troops in Iraq and US occupation of Iraq. Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) has been working and organizing support for HR 4232, including circulating an online petition that has garnered more than 25,000 signatures. PDA urges everyone to sign the petition -- pdamerica.org/petition/mcgovern-... -- and to ask your Congressional member to co-sponsor the bill. Rep. McGovern was interviewed on Wednesday, Oct. 4, by PDA National Board Member William Rivers Pitt.

Blackmail?

Well now, this is sick, even for a Republican.

Thanks to John, at Americablog.

According to ABC News Sunday night broadcast:

A Republican staff member warned Congressional pages five years ago to watch out for Congressman Mark Foley, according to a former page. Matthew Loraditch, a page in the 2001-2002 class, told ABC News he and other pages were warned about Foley by a supervisor. Loraditch, the president of the Page Alumni Association, said the pages were told "don't get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you and all that kind of stuff."

SO, IN 2001 THEY WERE WARNING THE PAGES "NOT TO GET TOO CLOSE" TO FOLEY

Then , on June 6, 2002, well after the kids were warned to stay away from Foley, Shimkus (THE CONGRESSIONAL STAFFER IN CHARGE OF THE PAGE PROGRAM) notes approvingly that Foley has spent a lot of time with the Page Class of 2001-2002? This is Shimkus speaking at the page's goodbye ceremony,

MR. SHIMKUS: I thank my colleague. Now someone who spends a lot of time with you also, the gentleman from Florida (Mr. Foley), would like to say a thank you.

FOLEY: John [one of the pages] was the highest bidder on lunch with Mark Foley. Maybe you all do not know this story, but John had paid considerable sums to dine with me. I had offered to take the winning bidder to lunch in the Members' dining room. Then I heard how much John Eunice paid. And I said, ``John, there is no way in the world after you committed so much money to have lunch with me that I would dare take you downstairs to eat in the Members' dining room.'' I said, ``Where do you want to go?'' He says, without reservation, ``Morton's.'' I said, ``Morton's? Like in Morton's Steakhouse?'' He said, ``Oh, would that be too much?'' I said, ``Oh, no, we'll go.'' I said, ``Call your mother, get permission, make sure she notifies the Clerk and we will go to Morton's.'' And so we proceeded to cruise down in my BMW to Morton's.

WHAT THE CHENEY?!? These creeps were actually having the politically hungry, underaged (probably pre-College Republican) little twerps BID MONEY for the privilege of having lunch with a known pervert. I wonder where the money went. Then they happily bustled this 16 year old kid off to go "cruising" downtown with a gay pedophile in his BMW to an overpriced restaurant.

Since the staffers knew about him 5 years ago, do you think they kept it secret from their bosses? Tom Delay was House leader for most of that time. He was famous for knowing the tiniest details of his friends and enemies. I suspect Foley was a very reliable vote for the party, when he needed to be.

Sometimes even my sense of cynicism can be inadequate. What a charming bunch of pustulant putrescent, excrescences on the body politic. I'm sorry "Coach" Hastert. You can't wash your hands of this one!

Impeachment!

Last Thursday I attended a meeting of the Philadelphia chapter of The World Can't Wait. About 18 people showed up. We discussed what we could do for the upcoming October 5th day of protest.

The proposal is for everyone who's interested to walk out of school, or take the day off and involve yourself in pro-impeachment demonstrations or activities. Consensus gradually evolved around a proposal to stage a rally at Love Park, starting at Noon. Several people determined to pursue permits for the rally. Others are looking for speakers and some will publish flyers and begin to distribute them.

The group will be meeting again this Wednesday at 7 PM in the basement of the Friend's Center, at the corner of 15th & Cherry St., one block over from Race St. Donations of both time and money are deeply needed. They want to link up with as many activists as they possible can, in order to have a large presence. Additionally, sometime that day, "Big Dog" Bill Clinton and "Poppy" Bush are supposed to be at the Philadelphia Liberty Center to receive Katrina related awards. The idea of a march, from Love Park toward the festivities has been discussed.

Help is needed with outreach, communications, media relations, and fundraising,

Body Armor and contributions

I'm about to leave for a two week vacation. Before I go, here's a must read about how the Rummy supports our troops. I'm going to send a copy to all our Reps. Maybe we could all take some action to spread the word. Write some letters. If stories like this don't trump stupic magnets on SUVs, then we're in a lot of trouble.

This is truly as despicable as I've seen. www.dailykos.com/story/2006/7/20...

Moveon party to vote for political focus

Hi gang,

I am hosting a party next Thursday, May 25 at my house. We will meet beginning at 7 PM. There will be a conference call with Moveon representatives. The purpose will be to discuss and vote amongst ourselves to distill 3 of the most important "Positive Agenda" ideas we should emphasize in the upcoming campaign.

After we decide our choices, we can vote nationally and, hopefully, all of our ideas will be adopted by the whole nation by mutual acclaim. Refreshments will be provided. The party can also be pot luck, if desired. Otherwise, just gift us with your presence and your ideas.

Anybody interested in attending and uncertain where my house is, please contact me at keith@pco.edu, or look up 822 Belmont Ave., Collingswood, NJ, 08108 in Mapquest or Google Maps
