TONIGHT: Turn a Double-Play for Democracy!
Linked to groups: Oakland DFA Meetup
Do you want to take back Congress AND elect a Secretary ofState who "gets" Election Integrity?
Then turn a DOUBLE-PLAY FOR DEMOCRACY on Tuesday night!
The primary election is TWENTY-ONE DAYS AWAY and both of these
"plays" are vital to the future of our democracy...
-----
PLAY #1: JERRY MCNERNEY FOR CONGRESS
Phone bank for Jerry McNerney, and help him give RICHARD POMBO
the boot, from 5-7 pm in OAKLAND! (the phone bank actually runs
from 5-9 pm, but many of you may want to attend Play #2...)
PLAY #2: DEBRA BOWEN FOR SECRETARY OF STATE
Attend an important fundraiser for Debra Bowen, a progressive
Election Integrity hero running for Secretary of State, from 7-
8:30 in OAKLAND
-----
More details below!

DOUBLE-PLAY, PART 1:
PHONE BANK FOR JERRY MCNERNEY
=============================
TUESDAY, MAY 16
"Take Back Congress" Phone Bank for Jerry McNerney
5-9 pm (or any portion that you can attend)
SEIU Local 535
447 29th St., (between Broadway and Telegraph)
PLEASE RSVP TO edenjames AT cal.berkeley.edu
NOTE: McNerney Phone Banks run EVERY TUESDAY -- May 16, May 23,
May 30, and June 6 (TBD)
Please join progressives from multiple Democratic Clubs and
groups across the East Bay who want to help Jerry McNerney win
the Democratic primary so he can take on Richard Pombo (we've
had anywhere from 12-22 folks show up for each phone bank!).
You can come anytime after 5 pm... the earlier, the better!
Please consider phone banking for Jerry if you want to replace
Richard Pombo with a renewable energy expert who has a vision
to turn the 11th congressional district into the Silicon Valley
of new energy technology.
Please consider phone banking for Jerry if you want to replace
Richard Pombo with a lifelong Democrat who supports a firm
timeline for withdrawal from Iraq and affordable, accessible,
and... universal health care.
Jerry, a proud "Barbara Boxer Democrat" with a large grassroots
base of support, is facing a tough battle in the Democratic
primary against a former Republican bankrolled by the
Washington establishment.
This is a battle for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party!
Absentee ballots started mailing last week. Your calls can make
a real difference RIGHT NOW!
PLEASE RSVP TO "edenjames AT cal.berkeley.edu"
Please join us at our very comfortable phone bank location
conveniently located in Oakland...
SEIU Local 535
447 29th St., (between Broadway and Telegraph)
PARKING: To park in the back, drive down the driveway alongside
the building between the office and the school; to enter, use
the back door -- the meetup/phone bank is just inside the door
in the Elinor Glenn conference room.
NOTE: McNerney Phone Banks run EVERY TUESDAY -- May 16, May 23,
May 30, and June 6 (TBD)

Oakland!
dfa.meetup.com/78/events/4923859...
Join East Bay for Democracy, East Bay Young Democrats and
Progressive Democrats of the East Bay in welcoming State
Senator Debra Bowen, outstanding Democratic Candidate for
California Secretary of State, to Oakland on Tuesday May 16th.
We'll socialize, enjoy light eats and raise much needed funds
for this awesome woman.
If you haven't yet met Senator Bowen you're in for a treat.
With joy and verve, she held 90 progressive activists spell-
bound at East Bay for Democracy's March meeting, with her wide-
ranging knowledge of election issues and passion for making
government transparent.
Debra Bowen insists on barring private ownership of our
election systems, ensuring verifyiable voting methods and
keeping government open to and serving the people instead of
special interests. This is our night to show her how much we
value her. Together we will carry her to victory June 6th and
again in November!
