Knocking on Doors
After meeting Kirsten Gillibrand at our monthly DFA meeting in Glens Falls early in 2005, I knew I would dedicate myself to getting her elected. One of my first steps towards that goal was attending DFA school in South Glens Falls. While the information there was valuable, it was to much to be absorbed in a one day session. The online DFA night school was also very helpful. There are still areas that I feel I need reinforsement in. One area I had trouble with was volunteer recruitment. Still DFA school helped in many ways, and I would attend again if it were offered in my area.
I became a pretty sucessful canvasser. People were very receptive, even republicans were nice. People are so sick and tired of the negative campaign ads, they were happy to hear a positive message their doors. I'm convinced that our grassroots efforts including canvassing and get out the vote efforts were instrumental in winning this campaign.
